Because the originals all came with a cardboard COA and were sold on the internet

Am I in the minority in that I don’t mind a heavier guitar and the 9.5lb weight of the one I have ordered is fine by me?

In reality, how different are they to a modern Standard? 

- Thicker neck
- Custom Buckers
- Original wiring
- "Standard" missing from the truss cover
- Lighter "Les Paul Model" font weight

That's what I'm aware of, but is that it? Or is there magic involved? Better wood? Do they still have fret notches on the fretboard binding? 

Not being facetious, I am genuinely interested as I want one.

One-piece bodies, holly veneer on headstock, different inlay material, different dye/glue process, different plastic parts & binding colour in the case of the 2017s... oh, and most likely a slightly different top carve too.

Significantly nicer, thinner finishes is the #1 thing for me. The goopy plasticky stuff they use on the regular USA line is much less nice in the flesh compared to the VOS finishes

2 piece but very subtle

Not from these rather flash models, but I’ve got a couple in the garage you’re welcome to have.
