Give me your postcode. I'll find you a car in 15 minutes.
He's filtered for within 30 miles.
He lives up a 29 mile track in Wales and his neighbour ain't selling.

I'd take that Porsche please and suffer the consequences of it being black.

Could he afford to run that Porsche? What would be a sensible repair pot fund to run it?

He can take the bus if he needs to, he proved that is an option for the last 3 months.  I mean he almost bought a Mercedes SLK twice, which would carry a similarly maintenance and running cost.

How about a Skoda Fabia VRS auto?

not within 30 miles but you've got to be prepared to travel for the car you want!

Like duuhhhhh....  I’m already doing that!

My filters are now set to (cue blood pressure increase in some here!....)

    £7,500 or under
5 seats or less (or unspecified)
    Engine between 1.0 and 2.9L
Body type: Convertible, Coupe, Hatchback, Saloon and unspecified
    Transmission & Fuel type: any
    Under 80,000 miles
Colour: Anything except black, brown or grey
    Location: within 30 miles
Manufacturer: Anything except Vauxhall, Nissan, VW, Jag, BMW, Merc, Mini, Subaru, Perodua, Audi, Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot, Renault (plus loads of others that don’t come up anyway like Lambo, Roller, etc).

After all that, I’m down to a shortlist of about 20.  Next, I’m going to check the asking price vs the valuation sites such as Autotrader and the MOT history.

    There can be only one....

This is why you are coming up with Diesel cars.

Weird that you exclude all the Germans and also Nissan? Yet somehow you thought about the Kei car a few page back.

That filter screams for a Toyota Corolla or a Ford Focus.

    Just do it.
How does that filter result in a load of diesels?  I'm not seeing the link.

VW is boring.  I have looked at several Golfs, etc but they just don't do anything for me.  Having said that, my current shortlist does include a Jetta.  (My previous filter included VW). Audi's reliability has been discussed here previously.  Nissan's isn't great either.

As for 'hating Japs' that's nonsense.  I love Japanese cars!!  I have all the oriental brands in my list, except Nissan.

@Emp_Fab - hang on, you don’t like golf’s cos they don’t do anything for you - but sticking an ugly boot on it somehow miraculously does do something for you?!

Just put Swansea in, that's close enough.  This is a dangerous proposition mind...  I am a hard man to please

I was just going to say the same thing. If you like Jetta’s there’s not much hope... they’re the less useful bastard brother of a Golf.

A Focus RS would come under that Filter, so would a Volvo T5, as would a Toyota Aygo or a Suzuki Smart.

It's a HUGE range of cars, the only reason he is getting like 20 is because it is within 30miles.  However the 30miles radius doesn't mean the best condition of cars, it's just that they are close.

I'd rather be more specific about the filter and extend the radius.  You will get the same number of results but more direct result of the cars that you actually want.

You need to be really specific, like I have a filter for a Porsche Boxster, the filter down to between a certain time periods because i know during my research that the IMS issue was solved after 2005, so I filter out all cars before that, and before the next facelift.  So even at a national level, I get less than 40 cars.  If I start more specific like Nav, it get about 5 cars.  Then filter down the engine to 3.2L I get 1 car even.

    It is not difficult.
Oh please start a thread on  buying a Porsche. That would be so much more exciting.

Good points, we both know Emp would never get one... But I am interested in the anticipated running costs as I could see myself in one as a weekend car. You sound like you've done your research so it would be good to hear your thoughts.

    His other critiera - though he deleted these before he posted them were;

    "Doors between 1 and 17"

    and

"Wheels, more than 2 (preferred, but will consider 2 in another moment of long-past-middle-age crisis dreamery)".

    ;)

I'm getting a car this weekend.  No.... really I am !!

    Probably.

Hang on.... Mrs Fab has just read this and has said "You'd better get a ****ing car this weekend".

OK.... here's the plan....  Unless a yellow Veloster Sport automatic sppears in the next 24h, or a green one (I'm moving back towards yellow), or a white CR-Z GT with the optional Glow pack, I will be getting an automatic car.  It won't be black, it won't be a Vauxhall or a Renault, or a Jag, it won't be over 2.2L, it won't be an estate & it won't have a DSG box

Apart from that, it could be anything.

It's unlikely to be my long term car though.
