Shine on You Crazy Diamond - PF

The C major scale beginning on G that is the intro to Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile)

Enola Gay - OMD (before it gets to the riff we all know)

    Echoes - PF

    A Hard Day’s Night - The Beatles

I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

    Beethoven's Fifth.

    Instantly recognisable.

    Best riff of all time.

    Duh (duh duh duh).
Hence why V is -... in morse code!
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

This isn’t an intro really as the entire thing is 30 seconds long but your comment reminded me of it as it is entirely in Morse code ...

  • I’m not much of a Rolling Stones fan but Gimme Shelter has always been one of my favourite intros.
I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.

Been listening to early Eagles a bit lately, I am almost finished reading Heaven and Hell by Don Felder, and am very impressed with the piano intro, played by Glenn Frey, of Desperado.  Works kinda OK on the guitar too but amazing on a piano.

I’m amazed it took 3 pages to get to the obvious answer. Thoroughly agree on both points.

Other 2 that immediately spring to mind for me are:

Like Eating Glass - Bloc Party
    The Cedar Room - Doves

... though the latter is a curious one. The intro itself isn’t the joy... it’s the release from it at around 47 seconds.

I’ll offer up a couple of Steely Dan intros, the first of which started a lifelong affection for all things Becker & Fagen....

Elliott Randall’s opening riff for ‘Reelin’ in the Years’.....sloppy enough to be one of Jimmy Page’s faves too allegedly

’Don’t Take Me Alive’ opened my ears to Larry Carlton

Spot on. Only discovered them last year and got all 3 albums. Just got Theresa Wayman’s solo LP, as well. I’m totally smitten... with her Mustang, obviously.

I was delighted with myself when I learned to play the opening line. It’s all about those vintage jag sounds ;)
