The 25 Most Iconic Album Covers Of All Time uDiscover
Oddly reminiscent of Their Satanic Majesty’s request.

Edit:  vice versa it seems, from Wikipedia.  The Stones one was released December 67, the Beatles’ in May 67.

This is one of my favourite covers

Not necessarily one of my favourite albums, although it's up there, but I think it's a brilliant picture.

Anything from Factory Records, with this one being the most iconic, but not actually the best

If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

IIRC later releases delete the swastika off it? [ not a criticism I just think there are two versions of it]

With me and my pretentious ways I was going to nominate several classic reggae albums but they tend to have rather cheesey artwork from the same school as heavy metal bands. I guess I favour the sweaty blokes in monochrome approach like London Calling and Johnny Cash at San Quentin. And The Specials and Madness One Step Beyond for those slightly stark images that those of us who have played in ska bands have attempted and failed to recreate at some point.

Special mention for Death Penalty by Witchfinder General. I'm probably not saying it's a great cover but the band are fellow yam yams, it's a cheesey photo and not cheesey art and the local controversy around it's release was news for weeks and a small highlight of my teenage years.
