Special mention for Death Penalty by Witchfinder General. I'm probably not saying it's a great cover but the band are fellow yam yams, it's a cheesey photo and not cheesey art and the local controversy around it's release was news for weeks and a small highlight of my teenage years.
I haven't got the album but I knew the one you meant straight away!  Ah, how times have changed...

On Heavy Metal Records, their office base about two miles from where I grew up. I think it still exists a a recording studio. This was a very local news story!

Oddly reminiscent of Their Satanic Majesty’s request.

Edit:  vice versa it seems, from Wikipedia.  The Stones one was released December 67, the Beatles’ in May 67.
Yea. And the accusation has been ever since that this confirmed that the Stones did follow the Beatles for inspiration. That while the Beatles set the trend, the Stones often followed it.

Surprised this wasn't in the first couple of posts. Perhaps its ubiquity has robbed something from it in the intervening years.

I've pared this down if you can believe it. I won't post any more but a fun thread.

Ahh the UB40 one; simple genius in it's way. I had an actual UB40 that I probably should have hung onto as a collector's item.

My sister had the Supertramp album but the whole city being made out of cups completely passed me by for many years!

I'd go as far as everything up to Seventh Son.

Bit weird when you think about it but I spent my formative years with Eddie gurning at me from all four walls ;)

    Black Sabbath - s/t

I was tempted to mention that, in contrast to Paranoid being mentioned on the worst covers thread.  I think there was also a thread on best opening tracks, or maybe I imagined that...

Possibly on the cover.  The content is wildly different.
