We tried to defend a 1 nil lead for 88 mins and then we were very poor at penalties. Reality is we Italy deserved to win and we didn’t.

The best team won. Poor decisions from Southgate - Manchini gave Southgate a lesson in good management. He got Italy on the front foot with some good substitutions and a change in tactics. Southgate should have responded and brought on fresh legs earlier - and you don't bring two young players off the bench to take penalities with one minute to go in the game.

Poor game for a neutral rescued by the excitement of penalties. Italy shaded it over the piece, England showed why they aren't a truly elite team (yet) by sitting in first half when Italy were there for the taking. 

Terrible decision to bring on specialist penalty takers, one of the only big mistakes Southgate has made in my opinion. 

Feel terrible for the players who miss. Would have preferred Kane and Maguire to be the villains for no reason other than I have irrational dislikes of both of them.

I honestly think whoever won that would have been the best team, you couldn't slide a sliver of toilet paper between those teams over the 120 minutes.

England have nothing to be ashamed of. They outplayed Italy for as much of the game as Italy outplayed them, and it was an absolute belter of a final. Both teams went for it, neither sat back and parked the bus, they both played some very good football, they both clattered the fuck out of each other.

I really, really hope that young Saka doesn't get the blame the way all the other players have in the past. It's always the last miss that gets the treatment, and I hope he gets the chance to get over that.
