Why is yellow such an unpopular colour for guitar?

I don't think it's just guitars. It's not exactly a popular choice for cars either or clothes or many other things.
    Very cool for bananas though

  • Can’t beat a yellow 80s Super Strat, quite partial to the 1980s vintage yellow PRS customs too.

  • @AlbertC is probably correct. My thoughts are that many people remember the Fender International Series guitars from the early eighties. Actually some fun colours, but often not very good guitars, hence a negative association.

The Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele is practically yellow- banana and custard.

… and probably just as crappy as the Eastwood Airline Duo Tone that you used to own.

Only Airline single-coil-in-humbucker-cover pickups could redeem it.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

  • I personally wouldn't mind one, esp on a Tele. Does the Butterscotch finish count as yellow? Or a LP Junior in "TV Yellow".

It is the same manufacturer so I'd guess it was similar yes, although I thought the Twin Tone was adequate at my level of things so that probably just shows my lack of knowledge. I think just didn't really like the sounds through my kit and the neck spec was just not quite what suited me.

Now, if there were a yellow and white Squier Mustang with the trademark Funkfingers rolled fingerboard edges...

TV Yellow's a winner for me

  • My 335 is trans-yellow (special order to Tokai - waited 8 months for it).
    I like TV Yellow.
I like the old Ibanez Desert Yellow (lh Ibanez are always black)

I think it takes confidence to pull off yellow in clothing and people feel the same about guitars.. on a wall my guitars look dull, wood tones, sunbursts, black, black, sunburst, violin brown...

Wearing it on stage I feel okay about that - I'd rather they sounded awesome.

There are lots of shades of yellow in guitar pigments that suck - they're mustards, australian acid flashbacks, dirty whites. On a guitar I think I'd be worried someone would say - hey that guitar is "putrescent snot" coloured... well I might but if I'm a south-paw - I get black and sunburst or I have to pay for a custom job.

(so far my customs from Golden Era Guitars are black and sunburst but that's not the point!)

I know your game, sunshine. You're one of those sickos who save all the blue Smarties 'til last, then, eat them all at once whilst watching The Matrix Trilogy.

… or, was it The Cornetto Trilogy?

Yeah, I didn't think I liked yellow particularly but my singer has a yellow Tele and it's a really classy piece of wood.
