I've just heard Knocking At Your Back Door on Sky Arts this minute (Perfect Strangers Tour).
The lyrics are dreadful - that woeful "cunning linguist" line...geez...what was Gillan thinking when he wrote that...?
(great hook on the chorus though).

Yes, but the OP said great bands. Queen were not a great band IMO and were no good after the first two LPs barr a couple of songs here and there. They were essentially a rock band on the first two and then became crap. Some of their LPs are worse than poor and not a single good track on them. Freddie carried them for years.

With the exception of Trick of the Tail and some of Wind and Wuthering then Genesis lost their creativeness once Pete Gabriel left. He was the powerhouse in that band. Even they didn't understand the direction he wanted to take them and went along with it. As soon as he went they reverted to the 3 min pop song. They were clueless. He was a musical genius.

They made a lot of songs I don't really like but their good stuff was really pretty good.

Once I borrowed my mates albums and made a cassette with all my favourites. That was a great tape!
