any conversation without reference to this masterpiece is utterly irrelevant IMO.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHozn0YXAeE

Not just funny but of course, brilliant.

The idea that several countries maintain the ability to wipe the world out, is genuinely upsetting.  We should really be more like Cunk on this one.

    Thank heavens for popular music.

... on topic... pop is going through a bit of a purple patch recently ( though with a lot of dross, as always) but little masterpieces keep appearing

I actually love the updated version. It's a banger.

This is still my favourite pop song of the 1980s, but it obviously wasn't a lot of other people's based on chart performance.

I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.

Taking a guess, it looks like Duel by Propaganda?

    Curses. Now hopefully fixed.

Almost. I went for post-Propaganda fallout in the form of Snobbery and Decay by Act.

Hard to define what pop actually is, it's a moving target as far as I'm concerned.  Not sure if this falls into best pop, but in my book it's certainly perfect pop.

Yeah that’s another one that’s perfect.

Mmm Bop is another - I almost put both on my list.

I wouldn't say this is the best pop song of all time but I just watched this video and the story behind it is fascinating

Crowded House are one of my favourite bands; I was on a driving holiday in the US when Don't Dream Its Over was getting lots of airplay and I've liked them ever since. Temple Of Low Men is a great album beginning to end, as are Woodface and Together Alone I've also got a Live On Earth CD of the time I went to see them at Wembley; ordered on the way in and collected on the way out.

However, Dancing Queen is the best pop song of all times; I know it's popularist to say so, but it just is.

When I asked my wife what she thought was the best pop song, she replied without hesitation; Bohemian Rhapsody.

Not sure it counts as pop now, but back then it probably was.
