I think this entire thread is probably ultimately pointless (not an insult, just an observation), but I do love 'Behind the Wall of Sleep" partly as it was never that popular  ;)
    Slightly more seen on TV...

And the slightly genre twisting but not that popular

    And the Aussie entry

I'm off back to sleep now Nursie...

Crikey - Could do this now and again in 5 weeks and pick a different song

I'm going for two - Fleetwood Mac and Go your own way - It has so much going for it - quality, solo, vocals, catchy etc etc

Then for a similar reason - Somewhere in my heart by Aztec camera and a similar reason to above

But in many ways, if it was left to the general public and the song that nearly everyone knows and can sing along to then probably has to be Dancing' Queen

  • These are better than the spinners I once saw on the tele as a kid . They all wore orange smocks & played some god awful folk type music

I think this is the finest crafted pure pop song

I can recall this coming out - I was about 14 - The band The Rubettes never existed at the time - The high vocals were done by a session singer called Paul Da Vinci - The song was about to chart so the 'demo/session' guys quickly became The Rubettes minus Paul and formed just in time to go on TOTP - Showaddywaddy were offered the song and turned it down

Those sort of faux teddy boy bands were pretty much my first awareness of pop music via TOTP. My favourites were Mud. I think Tiger Feet is still a classic (with quite buzz saw fuzz guitar as I think I recall).

Twinkle- Golden Lights, short concise and sugary, pop is an often looked down upon genre but it is very tricky to do.
