'Instant Hotspot' looks good but I bet O2 won't allow it on my Sim only account.
Unfortunately I don't have 4.7GB free on my iPhone. Can't do my iPad until I here that certain apps are iOS8 compatible - they are in testing at the moment.

  • Anyone put it on a 4S yet? Early reports seem to suggest it slows it down a fair chunk :(

Finished installing it this morning.  From someone who came to iOS after years of Android - OMGATLASTSOMEKINDOFHALFDECENTKEYBOARD!!!

    Ahem.

Other than that, everything seems spiffy on my 5C, no noticeable slowdown and no apps have flipped out.  It's my first big iOS update, and it certainly went a lot smoother than any of my Android updates did.  Whenever I got them.  Which wasn't terribly often.  Thanks Samsung. :D

I didn't even put 7 on my 4S because I was worried about that and battery life. I suppose I should have done while I could… since no doubt Apple will make it impossible to upgrade to 7 rather than 8 if I ever need to. Or do you have to go through 7 to get 8?

  • Had to make space by getting rid of some music on my 5. To be fair, I only ever intended to have a very small selection of music on it but ended up with well over two day's worth, so a clean up was overdue....

I'd love to go back to manually flashing new OS images to get timely security updates, rooting phones, random crashes, laggy interfaces and an OS which has no real clue what sort of device it's targeted at so is just a big mass of messy unspecialised code with more holes than you can poke a stick into.  Oh, wait, no I wouldn't. ;)

(Disclaimer - I had pretty much every top end Android device since they first came out, and was a hardcore Android fanboy nerd  and Apple basher for years until I defected a few months ago.  I'd probably have been the one posting random pro-Android stuff in an Apple thread a year ago. :D)

My smartphone is a smart phone.  I just want it to work reliably, make good quality calls, run a few decent apps, and have a smooth interface.  iOS does this just fine.  Other people like Android.  That's fine too.  Some crazy fools even like Windows, but they're just weirdos.  I have multiple home Linux machines when I want to play with operating systems. :D

  • Can anyone confirm if they've changed the music app after gimping it in ios7?

Landscape mode is shit in 7, and the inability to select artist->album is crap

Or you could do it plugged in via iTunes - bigger download but all the unpacking happens on the computer.

    You might be knackered.....

My 4 is fine on 7, so can't see your 4S having any problems. You might be stuck on 6 now though, so at some point you'll have to chose between 8 and updated/new apps, or sticking with 6.

    I'm getting a 6 soon as I can :)

I do see what your saying and I have to admit I do love my macbook air, but all your point were valid before jelly bean and project butter came out, but now it's so far advanced, any update is now not immediately needed, where as on the iPhone their sorely needed
Only the nerdier of the Android users need to root, but really these days again it's not needed, Android provides everything you need without root, ok so you can't over clock your CPU but does anyone really use a quad core 2.2ghz processor to its full capacity on their phone? No course not, therrs only a minute amount of apps capable of utilising the power, hell most games are only now just being coded to make use of multi cores! :-D
