Thanks @Iamnobody - you've no idea how much I need to hear that :)

I actually feel fine chest-wise. I had a cough and a sore throat for a couple of days but now I'm just tired all the time. I'm itching to get out again. I had 20 miles planned for Saturday but that might have to wait.
Yes @Iamnobody is on the money @Bidley. Don’t worry about missing a week or so as you’ve gone plenty of good miles locked in. I had  Covid in October and soon got back into it. You might not feel as sharp as before on the first few runs but it’ll all come back in plenty of time for Brighton.

By the way - have you reconfirmed your place for Brighton with the new organizers? An email went out a couple of weeks ago on this from the London Marathon people.

Thanks guys, I feel less stressed about losing time now. A little less. Gopd work RedRabbit, you'll find the thrust again and be knocking out 10kms on the regular in no time!

Yep @26.2 I reconfirmed. It's starting to get real now. Still need to sort accomodation - I'm not going to be driving a couple of hours each way on the day!

I usually stay a couple of nights, even though I’m only just over an hour away. If you can get somewhere near the start of the race it’s less hassle on the day. There’s a Travelodge at Preston Park which is where the start is, but might be booked up now. There are plenty of others though. I usually stay about 15 mins walk from the start, near the main Station. Preston Park station is closed on Sundays and they close the roads around the park which means that taxis and buses don’t go all that close.

Cheers @26.2 I've booked somewhere just under a mile away, so I'm sorted now!

Managed 1 mile easy, 4 miles at HM pace then 1 mile easy today. I'm definitely not sharp and I couldn't have done much more, but I feel better for doing it.

Well done mate - good to get back out there.

There’s a train strike now on Sat April 1st which is a nuisance - I’ll have to drive now.

Nice gentle 8 miles today to finish off week 1 of this year's training.  19 miles in total this week.

  • Managed to stretch out today's c25k session to 40 minutes of running.  It should have been 25 minutes.

Still had a bit left over but not much.  I think I was being fuelled by the huge plate of mash I got served last night - I'm generally trying to keep carb intake on the low side while I'm trying to lose weight.

Woke up feeling normal today for the first time in a week, so I managed to bank the dreaded 20 miles. I actually felt good, kept it easy at 5:43min/km. I'm feeling better and better about my first 26.2!

That’s great news! Good pace too.

    I’ve got a 20 next Friday.

That’s brilliant mate, well done. The slower the better for the long runs.

First race of the year yesterday. Nice undulating 10 miler, did this same race last year in 1:21 and it took my legs for a fair while after. Managed 1:26 this year and was a lot more comfortable both during and after.

Steady 5k this evening to keep the legs moving.

Great news @d8m and a good time! I'm itching for my first race of the year next weekend.

    How'd the 20 miler go @26.2 ? Smashed a 10km yet @RedRabbit ?

I did 8 miles at HM pace on Thursday, 4:52min/km//7:51min/mile and felt great. Did 13 miles at marathon pace this morning (5:26min/km//8:45min/mile) and felt similarly good despite the hail and the freezing wind about halfway through.

  • Ha, not quite!

Just finished off a 5km run on the treadmill.  Still bothered about the discrepancy between my watch and the treadmill but I've just decided to follow the treadmill/Zwift as it's the slower of the 2 and therefore more realistic.

5k pace is 38 minutes.  I'd love for it to be lower but I guess I've got to remember that even running for more than a minute had me gasping for breath just 2 months ago.

Current plan is to do a weekly 5km, a 30 minute interval session (5 mins 5k pace, 2 minutes my 1 mile pace rinse and repeat) and either one or two "quick" one mile runs.

I'm also going to start adding in some body weight exercises focusing mainly on my core (my right side is a little weak following from health issues from last year).  I think I'll be doing 2 full body circuits a week and try and get 10 minutes of core work in everyday.

I'm going to do this throughout March and possibly start a 10k training plan after that.

Hope everyone is doing well and working towards their goals.

A very pleasant nine miles yesterday in a shade under 90minutes.

  • Nice work everyone.

I've been feeling absolutely knackered this week - perhaps a bug (though no other symptoms), or perhaps just after-effects of the previous week skiing plus a long drive home. As a result I've only managed to get out twice, so feeling a bit under-prepared for the Cambridge Half next weekend.

Hoping that a couple of short leg-looseners this week will bring back the mojo. (The same weather as today would be nice, too!)

Sounds like you’re going well - those are good paces! Great work.

My 20 mile ended up being a 19 in the end. It was solid enough - decent endurance. Felt a foot twinge towards the end so stopped at 30K just to be on the safe side. I’ve done a 10k and a 5k since and it’s been fine. I’ve got a 20 miles and a 21 in the next 2 weeks then tapering!
