'Waiting for a star to fall' is a good one as is Go West's 'We close our eyes' or 'Call me'

I always used to say Mr Blue Sky and Wild West Hero by ELO.

But I heard the former quite recently and for the first time I thought it's beginning to sound a bit dated.  Still great though.
I agree. About a year ago I was thrilled to be given an ELO best of download, by the internet.

I remember most of the songs on it very fondly, but listening to it wasn't the experience I was hoping for.

I'll be 56 next week, I still prefer newer stuff of my choice or older stuff of my choice to that best of.

I'd stick Roadhouse Blues on my list if it was a pop song.

Whoever said Ever Fallen In Love was correct if the net is cast wider.

I'd add Babylon's Burning to my list if I may.

Taylor Swift is amazing.  I recently listened to a podcast considereing if she is one of our greatest living poets.  She is up there with Wordsworth
I like Taylor Swift and respect her songwriting but she really isn't a poet on a par with Wordsworth. Do you think the following is up there with, say, Intimations of Immortality?

    "Cherry lips, crystal skies
I could show you incredible things
    Stolen kisses, pretty lies
You're the King, baby, I'm your Queen"
Here is a link to the podcast.  Very interesting especially if you have kids doing English Literature

'I just sit here and wait, grieving for the living'  - Taylor Swift or Taylor Coleridge?

It could be my age and what I was exposed to growing up but those that come to mind are a couple of Duran Durans early hits. Rio, Ordinary World particularly. A couple of Tears for Fears songs, Head over Heels, Everybody…..,

Its a hook, a singalong chorus, an instrumental hook, and easily remembered accessible lyrics.

Bumping this for the Miley vote. I played an impromptu version at our singer's birthday do at the weekend and every single girl knew every single word... It's definitely going on our setlist! It's actually quite a decent song too.

Absolutely - I got the Electronic album on vinyl at New Year and I've absolutely hammered it since even though I'd got into it on Spotify years ago. I'm beginning to think it might be better than anything Bernard did with New Order, and I think maybe the best thing Johnny Marr has done too (even though there isn't much guitar on it).
