Teenage Rampage. Sweet. As much hard rock as could be allowed back in the day whilst still keeping a poppy element.

I loathe Abba. Horrible saccharine-sweet garbage.
    I’m with you.

Buzzcocks and Blondie did the kind of pop songs I liked at that time.
And probably 99% of people had no idea that their best known song was about Pete Shelley's love for another man.

Read through all the comments and didn't spot these two, so I throw them in the ring as contenders:

Oh, and I just thought of this one, too!

Yup, That Kylie song ^ is great. Deceptively simple but also perfectly delivered, especially considering she doesn’t have a particularly strong voice.

I’d add Del Amitri’s Roll to Me to the list.

To be fair, Del Amitri have done some absolute corkers, probably the most under-rated band of their era and brilliant to see live.  Roll to Me is a strong contender but they did a surprising amount of radio friendly tunes.

They remain one of my favourite bands ever and I think Linus of Hollywood cites them as his favourite band ever.

Justin Currie is also a bloody brilliant lyricist when he needs to be, too.
