My Carbon Copy is about to go winging it's way off to a new home.
I liked it, but it's just a little too dark for me.
I'm starting to wonder if I just don't like delay, but I thought that about compression until I found the SP Comp.
So far I've tried:
EHX Big box DMM - Perfect sound, but too big and too unreliable
EHX Memory Boy - Loved it for wobbly lushness, OK as a regular delay, should not have sold it.
Mad Prof Deep Blue - Liked it a lot, slightly too bright, no mod, and worked better with distortion than with clean sounds
Zoom G3 - Some good sounds, but too big and I can't get on with the workflow
WH Aqua Puss - Amazing sounding delay, but delay time too short, box quite big and not enough delay time
MXR Carbon Copy - Repeats too dark, but otherwise very good
TC Alter Ego - Too many options for live use, but sounded fairly good.
Features I need are:
About 600ms of delay (I don't want a delay with 4 seconds of delay on a pot as they are impossible to dial in)
Analogue type repeats though not too dark (ideally configurable)
Form factor ideally MXR sized or WH/Strymon Sized if it has top mounted jacks
Ideally some mod preferably on a toggle
Things that are on my try list are:
Echo Puss or Supa Puss
Strymon El Cap - Probably too expensive for something I don't use that much
Thomann Exclusive T-Rex Delay - Seems to be a mega bargain
EHX Tap Tempo DMM - Again waaaaay too expensive
Malekko Delay
What else should I be looking at?

How about getting a modded MXR ?

I've been pondering this T-Rex which seems a mega bargain for £66

buggery bugger, I want one of those now. No modulation for the OP though?
Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail, I really want to try one.
Check out Premier Guitar's demo.

Delay Range: 15ms to 600ms. Actual delay time indicated by flash rate of illuminated delay time knob.
Vapour Trail is like almost half that.

You know you can edit the minimum/maximum delay time on the knob ucing the Toneprint Editor? Maybe a bit of toneprint tweaking to get what you want but, once done, it's a straightforward three knob delay adjusted perfectly for your needs.
