Penalties galore for Leclerc; a 5s penalty for nerfing Verstappen off and a 10s penalty for cheerfully staying out while his car was shedding bits of bodywork into Hamilton’s face.

Just for a bit of good old whataboutery, I’m pretty sure Verstappen would’ve nudged Leclerc off in similar fashion had the positions been reversed.

I don't think Max would have got himself in no man's land to run wide from tbh
    Red ones are better.

Maybe not by accident.  Certainly on purpose.

Bit of a dull race, however I think the stewards are starting to make life difficult for themselves with their new relaxed outlook. Vettel should've been penalised, Le Clerc should've been flagged for bodywork and by not penalising Albon they've set a bit of a precedent with similar moves. I'll say with the Albon move Norris left the door wide open which allowed the move to happen, so perhaps not so cut and dried.

Why do you think Vettel should have been penalised?

Agree on Leclerc, that was just silly.

I think Norris just wasn't expecting anyone to come round at that point.

A jump start is a jump start, whether you gain benefit from it or not, this is the rule in the other classes of motorsport and. MotoGP etc

My understanding of the rules is this:

the rules will read: "Either of the penalties under articles 38.3c) or d) will be imposed on any driver who is judged to have:

    "a) Moved before the start signal is given, such judgement being made by an FIA approved and supplied transponder fitted to each car, or;

He moved before the lights went out, and others have been penalised before. Granted they were moving as the green light came on or further out of their start box. They're manipulating the outcomes by deciding who/what is involved and penalising when it's seemingly not interfering with the result. Since Canada they've been too lax with enforcing rules that change the front of the race, setting precedents for coming events.

He didn't trigger the sensor - and he wasn't moving when the lights went out. And he lost places, so a penalty wouldn't really reflect the infringement.

Still think they aren't being consistent, which opens them up to problems possibly.

Yeah the jump start thing is odd - the intent of the sensor needing to be triggered is to avoid any need to have judgement or meticulous frame stopping of the video - yet here he clearly twitched, which distracts the field and is the definition of moving before the lights go out.

The race starts when the lights go out. Before the start you have to stay still. He didn't. Bit got lucky on the language of the rules.

You’d have penalised him just for showing up to the race.

    That seems fair enough.

Leclerc should’ve been black flagged for continuing to go round with those bits ready to come off.
Fortunately the cars behind him were lucky, though Hamilton lost a wing mirror.

Worrying Instagram post from Hamilton .. he doesn't seem to be in a happy place ...

Lewis wrote: 'Honestly, I feel like giving up on everything. Shut down completely. Why bother when the world is such a mess and people don't seem to care. I'm going to take a moment away to gather my thoughts. Thank you to those of you who do give a d**n about the world.'

He's gone all Greta environmentalist .. rumours he could just quit F1.

Not his style .. he seemed out of sorts in Japan from the day he arrived. I follow the guy on Twitter - he's always upbeat and positive. This is unusual.

I think he’s pissed off with a Mercedes bringing him in when he could have finished second if he’d stayed on the mediums
