Lost the rear end on corner entry, straight to the scene of the accident.  Looked like he wasn’t keen on easing himself into the session and instead wanted to be setting fastest laps from the outset.
 

Quite embarrassing for Mercedes, if indeed they’re on the cusp of announcing him as the next wunderkind.

Russell didn’t look very happy as he sat in the garage watching the marshals pick bits of his car out of the Armco.

Rumours on Reddit suggest the brakes may have gone light on the Aston safety car and Berndt chucked it to get some speed off before the barrier.  Dont' know if true.

I see Kimi has finally been announced this morning. Toto saying he was immediately at least as quick as they hoped so the crash isn't a big problem. Presumably they believe he's got the ability to finesse his driving and sit right on the edge rather than just become the next Maldonado

100% that's what looked like with the Scandinavian flick. You can see the whole thought process play out in just a second or two of realisation that there were no brakes.  Class act.

Another cracking lap from Lando. Less than 2 tenths covering the top 6; incredibly competitive, and the Red Bulls not really that close! 

Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon.
