So Greggs are the Harley Benton of sausage rolls by this philosophy?

There's probably more pork in a CS Strat than a cheap sausage roll

Just as good as any high end sausage rolls once you've replaced the sausage meat.

Make a great platform for upgrading. Replace sausage meat with some sausage meat from M&S rolls and then upgrade the pastry with that from some other M&S rolls and then boom you have M&S Sausage rolls at a fraction of the price. Just don't label them or try to sell them as real M&S ones though..

Best cheap sausage rolls are partscasters... aka make your own.
I dont like these thick deli jobs (custom shop), 4.99 for a fist like lump of meat.

    So the partscaster sausage rolls.....
    • 1kg pork shoulder, nice and fatty. £4.70 for 1.6kg in sainsburys atm, cmon.
    • Mince pork up in a home mincer.
    • Season with salt, pepper, sage, lemon zest, nutmeg.
    • Get some ready made puff pastry. Roll it out thin.
    • Roll the meat up in pastry to form right shape (or go cornish shape for pure professionalism),
    • sling it in oven and bake 160 for 25-30 mins. Longer cook and lower temp - better cooked pastry and crunch.
    • Serve with a half a pint of salad cream dip. (handle glass preferable).

    Dont worry, be silly.

Getting the original sausage meat out, and then getting the M&S meat to stick properly without the whole thing falling apart can be a real ballache though.

Can anyone recommend a decent butcher in South Bucks who could do this for me?

Yes, but quality commercial rolls are authentic (and fun hobby also), and I've always wanted to have some. No need to make your own if it's the similar recipe.

It's not just ingredients, it's construction. Also fender v gibson is like comparing sausage roles to pasties. Also a greggs sausage roll can't compare to a pasty at the cafe in tentagel.

Cheap things are made to be cheap. Fenders were designed to be easy build mass produced interchangeable instruments. Gibson are carved archtops often with flame maple.

I no longer generally look at food prices in a regular shop, it's too frightening, I might check at a Christmas Market.

It comes down to what you want. Manufacturers have to make you want it.  The old prs dentist joke works because those guitars appeal to those who can afford them. Most makers have a range from cheap to expensive. Gibson miss a trick with not calling the epiphones Gibson IMHO. Mid range guitars force up the prices of the real ones.

Custom shop fender and Simmons sausage roles for me. Life's too short and with the amount of pastries I eat...

Looking at British waistlines I would say it's in reverse order.
