Could have been more original. Used the same Link Wray 'Runble'  riff in one of the car insurance ads! lol

But Jimmy clearly loves the riff!  And loves air guitar too (I think it was his air 59 LP he used in this one)

I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

Wow, Gibson are making a '59 Telecaster?

With regard to using Rumble on the advert, it is apparently one of Jimmy Page's favourite tracks, although I would have thought there are plenty of Zep riffs which would have been a better choice.

Yup, it's another 'dad rock wallhanger special' from Gibson. Page is one of my favourite guitarists, but I wish Gibson woud just feck off and die.

  • If Gibson made a more affordable Les Paul Standard Page signature, or even an Epiphone one, you’d think they’d sell a load. Have there been such Page signatures in the past?

    That's quite a niche guitar!

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

It would be hard to get away with right? Unless it's a gimmick/ Zep cover.

That aside - I walked past the building the other day, right as it was in the final stages of setting up. The whole roof has a conveyor belt of maybe 100 or more dangling Gibson's circulating the space. I found myself locking onto one and then having to walk slowly around the building to get a decent look at it. Not very practical for a serious customer!

Gibson USA in the 90s, various custom shop versions in the early 00s.

I reckon we can expect this to follow the Adam Jones / Slash / Greeny template: a Jimmy Page collection of models (ie not just the niche double neck), start with ridiculous "collectors edition" Custom Shop models, then regular Custom shop, then USA production derivative, then premium Epiphone. All over the next 2-3 years.

If I was still playing in bands nothing would please me more than whipping one of these out to play something on. They're so ridiculous, even the non-Custom Shop/Jimmy sig ones...

I saw that very good Eagles tribute  band summer before last at a festival in France and he used a white version for the Hotel California grand finale. It looked and sounded great. Right tool for the job i guess.

Exactly. They will be expensive, they will be in limited quantities and they will be snapped up by (the many) well heeled collectors across the world.

It's just one more entry in the roll call of guitar world paraphernalia that says nothing to me about my life of relevance to me.
