Isn't monkfish a dirty bottom feeder? A friend who's dad was a fisherman told me that's what went into fish bites and fingers years ago before it became fashionable and in demand.
Well, it was used as 'Scampi ' in the 1970s /80s together with Thornback Ray
Just because it's a bottom feeder doesn't make it bad .....most flatties are bottom dwellers ....
Brill ,Plaice, Lemon and Dover Sole ,Dabs,Halibut, etc......you won't find fish that expensive in Fish Fingers
Didn't lobster used to be classed as a cheap food too, and given to the peasants?
    Oysters too.

Whats quick about cooking something for 20 mins?
I think Mc Donalds turn around their grotesque version of this in 5 mins .......Filet o' Fish ......Heaven only knows what goes into that
I love a McD Filet-O-Fish, a great accompaniment to a Big Mac after a skinful. I always marvel at how square the fish McDonald's catch are.

    Me too.

At the end of the day, how "processed" can a fish finger be?  I mean, there's not many ingredients!  A bit of fish, some breadcrumbs with colour and seasoning (or batter).

It's not like they're cheesy peas is it ?!
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

Oysters were the standard fare of the impoverished with even the most remote access to tidal water
Not so long ago they were found and consumed on the East side of London from Dartford down to the Thames Estuary
The foundations of half of Roman Colchester are Oyster shell although Colne Oysters are still one of the best British Oysters just somewhat more expensive now .
    Boudicca probably loved an Oyster.

Only around half of a fish finger’s ingredients is listed as fish, the rest is fried carbs which is a processed food

Hardly much preparation time - 6 fingers under the grill and turn once or twice - A toasted cheese sandwich requires more preparation time

Twelve minutes from frozen in our air fryer. It takes longer for the butter in the fridge to soften enough to spread it on the bread =)

Bit left-field, this, but hear me out: Branston pickle is *great* on a fish-finger sandwich :)

It has to be mayonnaise or poor man's marie rose sauce made from tomato sauce (ketchup) and mayo shaken up together in the almost-finished tomato sauce bottle.

I've avoided fish fingers  for most of my adult life. If I want a piece of fish, I get a piece of fish, I don't need it caked in crap by some big convenience food manufacturer.

Just for clarification. Daddies Sauce and not Daddy's Sauce?

    No judgement.

    Close but no cigar :-)

A Young's Chip Shop Large Battered Cod Fillet with Nando's Perinaise (medium heat), plenty of black pepper and served in a wrap is pretty much perfection after a night on the lash.  Or any other time come to that.

Kentucky Fried Catfish.  All you would need then would be a pickup truck with oversized tyres, a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, some shapely woman wearing cowgirl boots and Confederate flag bikinis, and a Telecaster.
It’s about the only fish besides fingers I’ve fancied , Inused to watch enterprise and one of the southern characters from Florida would often eat or mention pan fried catfish  & I quite like the idea of it
