Welcome to the 27th Poopot's Cover Challenge

The winner of our last challenge was me and I have chosen a song beginning with N

which is...

...

No More Heroes by The Stranglers

If you don't like that then, seriously what's wrong with you? I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't appreciate it. Anyway, if you don't want to cover the chosen track then you can choose any song starting with N or N preceded by "the" and there are loads of great ones out there

But… if you cover the chosen track you will automatically receive a bonus 5pts as a head start

RULES:

Entries to be sent in mp3 format to the following Email address:

covers@thefretboard.co.uk

Please comment in the thread when you've sent an entry. And feel free to submit more than one entry if you want.

You may wish to submit artwork to go with your entry. It brightens up the playlist and might subliminally get you more votes but it's not mandatory.

Entries close at 11.30pm on Friday 28th June 2024... so get onto it!!!!

A playlist of all the entries will be posted below:

And quick off the mark I've added an entry. Fingerstyle clean jazz guitar isn't usually my thing but I thought I'd give it a try with a Sinatra classic

Hah!  I already had that on my list of possibles!

Got to get my keyboard skills a bit better first though,
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Interesting choice - its undoubtedly a good song, but one of those which I find I can't recognise until the "no more heroes any more" bit so could be interesting to actually learn it properly. I always enjoy it when I hear it, I just don't ever recognise what it is until that one bit. I've a weird and annoying brain.

It wasn't on my shortlist already and may not do it still, but I'll learn it in any case I think
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

I already had a fairly chunky list of possible entries, and this wasn’t on there. I do really want to do a couple of mine tho so I’ll try and get 2 or 3 in this time :)

I've sent in an entry.  It's a tribute to one of my favourite players, Clarence White.  Nashville West was a bar, a band and Clarence's "theme song".  Includes some fun behind the nut bends.  Anyway, like flying_pie's effort it falls apart a bit once I get to the tricky bit...

Yeah. It's also me playing the drums and I do an incredibly good Dave Grohl impression....

Got to get my keyboard skills a bit better first though,
And there's a something from me for the play list

Still using Studio One as the DAW
Drums using BFD drums plugin, tapped in on my MPD218
Keys from one of the synth plugins, via my Oxygen49
Guitars was an old homebrew Tele (for the authenticity )
    And my old bass

I'd really welcome any tips on how to mix for better clarity.  I've tried to separate the frequencies a little, and panned different tracks L/R too, but still sounds a bit muddy to me.

    [edit]
And, in case anyone hadn't worked it out, yes, I "sampled" the intro bass riff as nothing I played sounded remotely right!

I'm no major authority on this but the guitar and bass seem to overlap a fair bit in your mix... and I wouldn't say it sounds terribly muddy by any means - it sounds good and fits the vibe of the song. I've not listened on studio monitors but it sounds good on my Sony WH-1000XM4s
