I’m getting there. Vocals still to do, and I have an idea I want to try as well but not sure if it’ll work.

So... just to check again, if your cover doesn't actually sound like the original, but your best beloved says "Is that meant to be No More Heroes?" on hearing it for the first time, it's OK?

Because if The Stranglers had made video game music this is totally what "No! MORE HEROES!" would have sounded like.

I'm glad you clarified with your second paragraph there, because I was going to say that entirely depends on whether you meant it to be a cover of that song, or a cover of Backstreet's No Diggity, for example.

I'd taken my first attempt at a cover of No More Heroes, and turned it into (I thought) something else, but apparently despite having a completely different chord sequence and no singing, it's recognisably derived from it. Sort of the main keyboard line but with a few notes changed.

Also there's a shred keyboard solo, so I suppose that's in keeping.

I have reconsidered, and will submit it in the next composition challenge instead.

I've sent in another entry.  It was finished a while ago, but I've been messing about with the mix, the amount of reverb on the vocals, all that sort of thing.  I also went back and re-recorded the main acoustic, but as I hadn't particularly stuck to a click I then had to take time to get all the other parts to line up.

Anyway, the song is Nine Times Blue by Michael Nesmith.   I kept things quite simple, acoustic, a couple of tele parts, organ and electric piano.  I also worked quite hard on the vocal, particularly the harmony part.
