So I don’t even care that much about scoring points as long as I’m learning stuff and making better recordings
(though obviously I still like dopamine so please give me points )
It took my years to feel comfortable just recording my normal voice (FWIW the "master, master where's the dream that I've been after" part in MOP is my usual voice). I found that doing characters/impressions was much easier to start with, even though I had heard recordings of myself from musicals I'd been in and know I can hold a tune okay.
I'd hope that nobody should worry to much about recording vocals for their track. We've always arrived to make this a safe space for either a first try or really messing around and in confident we can keep it that way. Everyone here knows how daunting it can be and I for one respects anyone that gives it a try
And I'm always happy to lend vocals if needed
I may in future take up an offer of someone providing vocals, if it's still open once you've heard my work.
I've never done the official song yet. It's the kind of rebel that I am.
"You don't know what you've got till the whole thing's gone. The days are dark and the road is long."
At various points i've learnt how to do impressions of Jeff Buckley, Thom York, Art Garfunkel, Lou Reed/Julian Casablancas (basically the same sound), Fran Healy (travis), the singers in the (fairly niche) band The XX, Lennon, Nick Drake, Damon Albarn, that kind of thing, even taken elements of others whom I can never sound like but can take little techniques from - Chris Cornell, Laura Marling, Matt Bellamy, Jacob Collier. Without really sounding like any of them but adding some stolen personality into my basic voice. Hence many of my covers tend to be along those lines!
(also happy to offer to do guest Vocals if it's within my range!)
We have a choir ...
Jk
It's probably the most predictable self-explanatory cover ever considering my voice type and music taste, but it's a song I love and I'm quite happy with having built the full arrangement up from listening to the recording way too many times
Are you thinking a Night Fever/Staying Alive type vibe? Obviously the "doo doo doo" should be replaced with a Staying Alive style "Aah. aah aah"
