What's Hot
... is better than the Led Zeppelin original.

No. It's not.  It's a mash between banal modern drop tuning riffage sounds, loads of mixed gay vocals, too much engineering and guitar and a dedicated exact reproduction of the main riff.  The result is a song which is watered down and not 100% proof and sounds more like anything else than the original.

I like it but the drums sound is much better on the original.

  • The 'rough mix with no vocals' on the latest reissue of "Houses..." is a great listen. JPJ sounding fantastic...

I like them both but if forced to choose then it would be Zep all the way ... @Sambostar makes some valid points.

    So much fail

One of the best things about bands like zep and Sabbath is that they weren't ruled by a click like modern bands.

I like Tool but I don't think they have added anything to the original there.

From a recording point of view, if you can play with good time (and that isn't necessarily bang on the grid, there's no emotion on the grid) then you don't need a click and the musics all the better for it
I record to a click generally because either the drummer can't get through a whole perfect take and I need to comp it or I need to use Beat Detective to fix things.

I like Tool but I'm a sucker for that ol skool Led Zep drum sound, all overheads and sounds like one instrument. The Tool drums will float a lot of peoples boat but are too processed and close mic'ed for me

AFAIK, Danny Carey never records to a click. You can hear it in their music - they really are a *live* band.

  • I don't like either tbh. Big fan of earlier Zep but it all went wrong for me when Jimmy discovered modulation :(

    And Tool are just dull.

Don't mind it actually, but I have to be in the mood for the song anyway. Not one of my faves.
