Mine was a Kay 45, otherwise known as the Kay Gun. Bought it new in 1984 for about £90. I thought it was ace.

It was actually suprisingly good - 5 way pup toggle, complete with Powersound Chopper humbuckers. Problem was it was totally neck heavy, so was trick to play. Did a good few gigs with it too. Oh happy days......got nicked eventually.

  • Mine was a black no-name Les Paul copy that we bought from our bin-man, along with Selmer vertical 2x12 amp the size of a skyscraper.

Black Squier Strat - about 85-ish?   I didn't really appreciate how good it was and sold it to get a Kramer Beretta because it looked "more metal".

Mine was same, sold from Freeman's  catalog I think originally but mine was brought second hand from a car boot sale.  These things were terrible it's a miracle anyone who started out on one perserved. I used to look at people playing past the 7th fret on top of the pops and think how is that possible when the actions 1\2 inch high there .......... turns out it's not supposed to be

A crappy Hohner Les Paul copy. Followed by a Squire Strat, then my Jackson, which I still have, and play regularly.

Then my ESP, which I still have, and play regularly.

Cheap-ish Peavey Strat-alike, a Falcon II if I remember correctly. Decent enough, I even bought the matching Telecaster-alike...didn't realise for ages that they were ply bodies though, which is why I could never make 'em cry or sing ;)

Hmmm, about 1997 then, Epi Les Paul Special II in black, about £90 mail order from Soho Soundhouse (RIP - their many-page magazine adverts were my fave pre-broadband gear porn!). Came complete with a classic unsupportive Dad quote ("Can't you choose something a bit cheaper, you can't really play it anyway") and did solid duty until my promotion to bass playing a couple of years later (and until my next sixer, Ibanez Artist reissue for my 18th). Still here, covered in stickers and memories and living under the continual threat of me modding it into an LP Jr!

A 1970s Antoria SG copy. It was nice, wish I had it to compare with the shite SG standard I've got now.
