  • Sissoko and his wacky harp the highlight for me.

Graeme Park sounded like Elvis Costello and Frank Black, which can't be a thing.

    The rest was yawnsome.

Does anyone know what that 12 string teardrop used by Alex Turner on the Arctic Monkeys song was, I really quite fancy one, and I never really liked teardrops.  Any ideas?
It's a Vox starstream xII by the looks of things.

  • Oh yes @streethawk that is the beastie.  I didn't even think of checking Vox, it looked far to nice and custom shoppy, I'll award my self a doh.  Thanks for the info and the pic.

  • I'm so behind with this, just watching last weeks! Anyway, can anyone id the Les Paul that Lissie's guitarist is using. Trying to work out if it's one of the Smartwood Exotics (sort of looks like a natural top, dot markers would fit, but can't quite spot if it's a thinner body)....I'm just watching on my phone so it's all very small.

    Just watched Friday's...

Enjoyed The Killers. A bit 'pop' compared with my usual tastes but always enjoy a fairly straightforward melodic song played well. Can never make my mind up about Gibson Explorers though - I like the look of them with certain players (The Edge) but know I'd look all kinds of wrong if I hung round round my neck. Suspect it's a confidence thing like with hats - some people can carry it off, and some look a bit of a twonk.

And speaking of hats... Boy George - again a bit 'pop' but still enjoyable (although if I'd realised it was going to be fancy dresss I'd have spent a bit more time getting ready!). Seriously though, he's lost A LOT of weight, appeared to be enjoying what he's doing more than he has in a long time, and gave the impression of someone making a real effort to turn himself around. I almost got a bit soppy to see it.

Chase and Status - nice enough but forgettable. Also, don't know if it was me but bits of their second song sounded a bit of a mess to my ears, as if they somehow couldn't get things quite together.

The Orwells - Not my thing, but fortunately couldn't remember a thing about them once they were done. Forgettable.

Denai Moore - sorry Denai, a bit of a dirge. Fast forward time.

Justin Currie - sorry but not for me.

    That's all folks.

    .
I had an Explorer once. For almost an entire afternoon! I bought it, took it home and loved it till I caught a glimpse of my reflection and then I started to notice that i didn't like the neck, that I wasn't happy with the sound through my gear etc, etc. So I went straight back to the shop and swapped it for a beautiful cherry Epiphone Casino. Much more me!

I agree about Boy George... not my cup of tea but he turned in a sterling performance I thought. His band helped a lot.

I think it's a stripped Les Paul Studio. It does look thinner than a Standard and has gold hardware. Better shots (and a fine solo) in the video below.

By the way, the guitarist, Eric Sullivan is a the nephew of Scott Gorham."Thin Lissie"?

Smartwoods weren't topped, and that has pretty thick body (mine was slim, single slab of wood, and uber neck heavy.)
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • I've heard people talking about the smartwoods being neck heavy, but mine's always sat fine. It was the first Les Paul variant I bought though so that was what I've been used to.

Cool video, nice solo, very much reminds me of All along the Watchtower. Wheels fell off when she started speaking though  %-(

It's a Smartwood Exotic - they were topped. It has a pearl logo and dot inlays - Studios have a gold decal and crowns.

The riff is blatantly nicked from All Along The Watchtower too...

    Yes they were

As you say, very slim body though.

  • Nice one. First time I've seen someone famous (or just on the tv) using one.

Some Studios (the tasteful ones) had dot inlays but yes, gold transfer logo. Smartwood it is.

Just watched the episode with John Mayer (OK, I'm lagging a bit behind at the mo!)

What were the pale blue amps the other guitarist in his band was using?  Sort of retro-ish offset grilles.  Tried to work it out from the logo but couldn't see it well enough - guessed at Bogner or Randall from the general shape of the word, but none of their amps seem to look like that...  Anybody know?  Nothing to do with the sound, it just annoys me when I can't tell what stuff is.

The other guitarist is Zane Carney. The amp appears to be a Siegmund Sound King...
