Never heard of people going to great lengths to stalk others through it though.
It does happen. I was friends with a crazy woman for a while (without realising she was a total nutjob, she was VERY good at hiding it and held down a high powered job). Her hobby was stalking and tracking down minor league rock stars and then shagging them. The weird thing was she didn't like sex, guess she just used it to get in with her stalking victims. I think she actually just liked the kudos of turning up to places with them. Most of the stalking info she got was through Facebook, amazing what you can find out from it if you do enough digging.

One Sunday morning I woke up and logged into Facebook and my mate had posted a bunch of status updates that were the names of all his ex girlfriends, going back years. Turns out he'd gone home pissed and got the search box and status update box confused...

    He isn't married anymore.

I only use Facebook to show people photo's of my breakfast, photo's of my dashboard when the weather is cold and a constant stream of photographs of every baby in the neighbourhood. I know, i know, you are most very welcome and don't mention it

Haha, bloke in work did similar (not me BTW) when a new girl started work and he'd typed her name into his status rather than the search bit....he took some shit for that!

I didn't have Facebook for years, but reluctantly joined again a couple of weeks ago due to university needs (find a housemate, mature students, society and course related stuff). Not that I shoul've, but I genuinely felt cut off from what was going on. The amount of times I've had students telling me, "If you had Facebook, you'd know about it." So I caved in, but only to serve a purpose, not to add everyone I know and request everyone I have ever known.  (People used to come and go in a persons life, but if you have Facebook, now they sort of stay.)

Anyway, it appears to have manifested into a massive source of information, both personal and corporate, and not just a means to acquire "friends".  It perplexes me every time I come to open my box of Yorkshire Tea to be confronted by the blue "F" symbol.  I always wonder why.

More to the point, it amazes me how much information people are willing to reveal, even with their "friends".  Conversations can easily be traced, who said what and when, and family photos can be viewed, all of which can be seen by ANYONE.  It's a scary thought.  The thing is Facebook users do this to other users, so other users will be doing it to them. As for privacy settings, they only work against people you either don't know or don't want to be friends with.  It wouldn't be difficult for a for a friend to ask their friend to look at their friends who won't be friends with them!...

tbh I only really use facebook to boost my friends number and make sure I have more than people I know.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

Facebook whinges puzzle me, it's as good and useful as the user wants it to be.

I've got all my privacy settings how I want them, I've got a few 'secret' groups that some photo's go into-example my Brothers family pics of his baby (he lives on the opposite side of the country). I keep in contact with mates from all over the country/world, which in days gone by I probably would have lost touch with them. As it is I've been abroad and organised to meet up with these people, which has been great.

I've got my band up there, as well as another secret group for us where we can have a group chat, which is more convenient than a group text for me.

I rarely post stuff on my own account, but what I do post  I'm not bothered whether my 'friends' or future/current employers see them. If somebody really wants to see my activity and wants to log in through a friend of a friend then they're welcome to see it, but may be bored with what they find.....

I do keep some idiots as friends on there as it amuses me to see what they say/do/whinge about, occasionally those eejits will boil my piss, but then I remember it's not really that important.

Oh yeah and looking at burdz bikini holiday snapz obvs

I use it quite a lot. Mostly to keep in contact with people from home, and also largely to follow small guitar builders :)

The key is to a) not use it to replace actually real-life socialising, and b) to keep your privacy settings up-to-date so people can't snoop without you accepting their invite.

Rarely use it but still have an account. Occasionally drop by to see what friends and family are up to, but if I want to follow a company I'll do that via Twitter or email.

Don't trust Facebook at all, and of course everything you post (including photos) you are giving them a worldwide, royalty-free license to do what they want with.

I used to work in an ICT company who supported many companies, one of which was a very well known recruitment agency. Every time we went there, they were all sat finding people on Facebook and having a look through,

They said they used CV first, then Facebook.  I struck me as lazy, but also quite smart I guess

Mine is set so that only friends can see any info at all. If you send someone a message and they are not a friend they usually ignore it because they don't see it. Messages from non- friends don't get flagged up, they sit in an obscure in-box that you have to go looking for. Most people don't know that in-box is even there.

Only weirdo's stalk other people though.

I sometimes I feel like I'm missing out cos lots of guitar companies seem to post their info on FB these days.  Plus, it seems that artist FB pages have put an end to the days of the artist message board.
