Loose Definition - here's my take on it:

Guitar Player: Anyone who plays a guitar regularly, at any skill level, whether that be simple chords at beginner level, to intermediate/highly skilled level, for personal enjoyment at home, or as a member of a band, or professionally.

AS OPPOSED TO

Guitar Owner: Anyone who owns a guitar, but does not actively play it. i.e. the guitar is locked away in a case, is on a stand, or hanging on a wall just gathering dust.

I don't actually believe anyone just keeps a guitar, or a collection in a glass cage without ever playing them.  I just don't believe that there are people about who are that much of a twat.

I would ban, but also name and shame the following:

People who think guitar solos are 'just showing off' - such people would forcibly have their top three strings cut off as they wouldn't need them...

Chronic, repeat timewasters in the classifieds section who make lots of noise about buying your guitar but go all quiet when you talk about doing the deal...
