Is it a Canada goose with jaundice?
It caused £3 million of improvements.
"Excuse me," he asked the man behind the counter. "Do you have any methylated spirits?"
"Yes but I'm damn sure I'm not selling any to you, you filthy old soak," growled the outraged proprietor. "You're not feeding your appalling habit here, go on, get off with you, and stop frightening my customers off."
"Typical," sniffed the old man. "Absolutely typical. You see the clothes and you judge the man. Yes, I've fallen on hard times, yes I've had my problems with drink, but I'm trying to straighten out. I'm trying to turn my life around. I've managed to persuade a painter and decorator to give me a helping hand with a job as an assistant to him. This kind, generous man is doing his best to help me drag myself out of the gutter and start anew, to give me another chance at a normal life. So he sent me to get some supplies and what do I get in return for his good faith? Prejudice and snobbery, that's what. Go on, kick a man when he reaches out for a helping hand, you heartless bully."
Ashamed, the proprietor changed his tune.
"You're right. I saw the clothes and made an instant judgement about you without waiting to hear the facts. I'm sorry, I apologise. Here's the bottle. Take it, it's free as a token of my good will and hope that you manage to succeed in your efforts to restart your life."
"Thank you very much, that's very kind of you. But can I ask just one more favour?"
"Certainly."
"Have you got any in the fridge?"
