    I'll do the 30th of may, but what should I play, I could do bass or percussion, to accompany Ian drumming?

    There should be an East Anglian venue.

    Matt

    You could be the second drummer to allow Ian on the Mic or to get to the bar. Also you are bound to drum in a different style so that lends a new angle.
    You also play bass really well so if Johnny Can't make a certain date, there's you, plus you will invariably play differently etc.
    You also play guitar, i seem to remember you playing a resonator of Ian's very well indeed so you can play acoustic, my 12 string, anyone else's 6 string etc

    There's lots you can do and whatever you do is welcome and appreciated man !

    I'm gonna try for the 30th too.
    Would like a set list to learn to give me some confidence though

    Really like the idea of this and could be a good vehicle to get people in my situation out playing again without the pressures of putting together a "proper" band

    I will work out a preliminary set list before tomorrow night.
    This will obviously be subject to discussion and alteration so if we set a date of next Friday 27th to finalise it then everyone will have time to get stuck into it.
    @monofin
    Your point about getting people back up on stage is a key element of what this is all about.
    Remember the fun and enthusiasm of the old days ? The only thing stopping that happening again is us.
    I intend to change that and bring us all together in an environment where pressure is at a minimum and sheer enjoyment is all around.
    I cannot emphasise this enough.........
    Every level of ability is welcome here. If you can only play basic songs, suggest them and we will incorporate them.
    I will say it again, some of the most basic songs can sound the most effective live.
    In the weeks between jams and rehearsal I will be more than glad to help people out with how to 'get' certain songs.
    Also worth mentioning here that the rehearsals will be a focused time where we can break stuff down to learn it with the full band so think of those dates as less of a performance and more of an actual learning and practice session.

    You're more than welcome.

    If everyone who is interested around the UK could express that interest here it would help me plan the UK tour and also if everyone came up with 3 songs that they could do and would like to try (Remember you will all get rehearsal time to polish the performance) then that would also help me to plan what is going to be a quite extensive set list when it's finalised.
    Also on the subject of the set list, this is also going to be quite organic in that it will modify itself as we go throughout the rest of the year and the dates within. We all learn as we go and so if the set list ends up with, lets say 100 songs, it's not to say that EVERYONE has to learn all the songs. Some songs will apply to some people in certain areas when the tour reaches them and some won't but the set list should really be seen as a resource to draw from so PLEASE don't be put off it it becomes a huge list. I am going to try to pick classics, standards, adventurous, technical, simple, different genres, male and female vocal (I'm working on the female vocalist issue as we speak).
    SO the set list is for people to look through and pick the songs that suit them. I will only be able to make this comprehensive with some input from the guys who want to come and join in and this is the place to post them...........................

    This does sound like fun.
    I play guitar, rhythm not lead, and a little bit of bass. I can also do vocals reasonably well.
    Based in Peterborough, willing to travel to Cambridge or something.

    @MrChi
    Yes I will be singing however the next time my voice will be in better shape than it was in Birmingham. I'm even giving up smoking for this and taking steps to rest and exercise my voice regularly.
    You will be needed as often as you can make it and if I'm passing you en route I can always pick you up, as I've said the same to @IanSavage .

    @roundthebend
    The more the merrier and any musical ability is welcome. I'm not much of a lead guitarist really and another vocalist will be VERY welcome !

    I should have worked out a plan by Sunday night to begin to outline the planned tour dates, rough locations and a set list.

    It's a lot of work but more than worth it.

    As an aside note I've been to see a friend today who specialises in PA gear.
    By the end of summer I will own my own 500w PA mixer and speakers capable of providing vocals for most of the places this project will be playing. This will include decent vocal mics and stands and will travel with me to all the venues except the rehearsals at studios where there will be no need for it, I will just bring the mics to those.

    So that's a bonus for us all to have our own PA and mics.

    Now I need to go and drink some Rum and think about songs................

    More later folks.

    ;)

    Unable to commit more than general goodwill to this extremely worthy venture. However, I'd love to make a 'guest appearance' if KJatR end up doing a gig in Cambs. Also, have you spotted the other sticky on this section of the Fretboard forum - may be a handy source of potential songs for your setlist.

    @bigjon
    I have to be honest here and say that before late last year when i came to the Beaconsfield jams with you, i hadn't played live in ages and since then you have been a big source of inspiration for me.  I guess what i'm trying to do is pay that forward now. Your general goodwill is very much appreciated and thanks also for the song list suggestions.

    I would be honoured if you could attend a jam of ours in Cambs as a special guest and it's one of the locations i am planning to visit with our UK tour 'Lollapaboozer' !
