A Strat can't do a keyboard but a keyboard can do a Strat, therefore the Strat is obsolete.

A Strat can do a half-decent impression of a Les Paul but it doesn't sound like the real thing. The Les Paul is far from redundant.

    Er, not sure.

Gilmour's 'classic' Strat neck pick-up solo on 'Another Brick in the Wall' was played on the neck pick-up of a Les Paul - albeit a '50s Gold Top with P90s.

A Strat with a bridge humbucker doesn't 'really' cover Les Paul territory.

So for me, it's probably a 'no' - though I'd agree a Strat fits into a wider variety of musical situations more easily.

I was going to try and think about how I could slot an Esquire into this thread, but even thinking about thinking about it started to make my head hurt.

    So I won't.

My wife does not look like Carmen Electra. Therefore my wife is obsolete. Would someone mind telling her for me?

I'd be more inclined to pass on your message if she did look like Carmen Electra.

Les Paul can do Mary Ford.

Does that make Mary Ford obsolete?

Are we talking about either guitar in their 'natural' form?

Modern LP's have coil splits but they still don't really sound Stratty.

The EC Strat etc with the mid boost actually does come close to sounding more like an LP.

If a Strat can do a Les Paul but a Les Paul is still not obsolete...can Carmen Electra do me?

I used to get amazing comments about my Les Paul sounding like a strat when my band played "Sultans of Swing".  I had DiMarzzio dual sound humbuckers with switching capability between single coil and humbucker.  (sorry if you've heard this before).  I was using a Fender Vibrolux tube amp at the time.  I have yet to hear a really convincing crunchy ZZ Top sound from a strat though.  But, the fact is, most people in the audience don't notice these things.

    Feck strats!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

No, she's dead. So's he. Thus...

A Stratocaster does not do Telecaster. It may try, yet it does not.

Once you have attained a Telecaster (or variant), all else will change.

And then, there's Junior's. After the Telecaster.
