I have retina and non retina ipads and tbh don't mind either.. where the new ipads are worth the extra is in the A7 chip, more tracks on garageband etc...

Ive got a retina ipad but if i were buying again id probably go android. It's a pain int he balls getting anything on or off the thing and I never got round to buying a guitar interface for it which was the main thing that swung me to ipad over nexus int he first place.

im with you on the pain to move stuff on/off elements with iOS but I tell you Android is not the answer, I have totally moved away from Android now, Nokia windows phone, Samsung Ativ Tab5 and iPad Mini tablets and think you get the best of both that way. Android started getting clunky compared to the other systems and I couldnt find one piano program that didnt lag with the m audio keystation

I never understand the complaints of struggling to get stuff onto an iPad. I put stuff from my pc in a Dropbox folder, open the Dropbox app on my iPad, click the program I want it to open in. Sorted, I've not plugged my iPad into my pc for about a year.

I have an iPad2.

I'll be getting an Air in a couple of days though - I've had this for a couple of years now, and it's proved its worth.  Mrs TT decided she'd have one too (4, I think), so I have to get back into the gadget lead with a new one. 

Now I just need a decent cover/keyboard combo for it.

 

The 2 will be used purely as my music "studio".

its not that its a struggle its just not as convenient as other systems.. pdfs, music, printing all a faff compared.

Pdfs and printing are easy on them! Music is a little harder, but only if you detest itunes.

Going to a retina display from a non retina ipad 2 is always a big upgrade. Getting more RAM and obviously a huge increase in CPU/GPU speed is a big plus too. Not to mention it's smaller and lighter with the same sized display.

It depends what you use your ipad for of course and what apps you use.

It's general zippiness but mostly the screen. Once you go retina you'll never want to go back.

There was a mis-price this morning on PC World/Currys where they had both the 16GB and 32GB wifi models for £265! I took a punt on one but I expect those orders will be cancelled in due course.

Now that the air is 64bit io7 is likely to be the last upgrade you'll get on iPad. More and more apps will be 64bit only.

iPad Air picked up in store this morning.

Decided I'd "just" get the 64Gb wifi version.  Until I got to the front of the queue, when I decided that the 128Gb version would make more sense in the long run.

I decided to wait until the Mini Retina is out before deciding between the two.

I have a Mini 64gb 3G already but if it isn't too much heavier then that might work for me.
