Perhaps we've got this all wrong, and Henry's a genius.

"Right everyone, the 2014 range got mixed reviews with the anniversary fretmarker, and there are loads of overstocks.  So, to make them more desirable, we're making the 2015 versions look even worse."

    "Genius!"

"Yes.  You should see the plans we've got for the 2016 range.  We've got Laurence Llewellyn Bowen designing them.  2015's will fly off the shelves in 2016."

Of course, what you should do here is a buy a 2015 guitar today, with a 30 day money back option and then send it back if you don't win...

Winners aren't notified until the 27th July
Is there a disclaimer saying that you still have to own it to get the refund?

Good heavens Gibson!!! Wouldn't it be cheaper to build an LP with a solid body, no holes drilled and just the wire rout from the pots to the toggle-switch and pickups, no expensive electronic tuning system, the original logo template which you already have, no horrible anniversary engraving on the 12th fret, and a thinner neck?

That's the LP most people want, but you have it as the extortionately priced Custom Shop version which the vast majority of fans of the guitar cannot afford.

Manufacturers will find ways to mess up a well loved product. It reminds me of the Toyota MR2, which looked like a junior Ferrari and handled well. Toyota replaced that car with one which looked like rolling dog crap.

That thing would way a ton though :D it's funny 15 yearrs ago no one knew about the traditional weight relief holes and thus no one cares because they didn't notice a difference. Now they know they are there, it's the end of the world :D

It's not worth either, he killed it for me when he posted 'thinner neck'.

Somebody on the Les Paul Forum reckons Henry is sabotaging the business so he can move non custom shop production to an OEM in Japan or China. An interesting point methinks. My brothers Epiphone Elite is a monster guitar so bring it on.

@jeztone2 comment about Henry J reminds me of some work I did with a UK high street bank. One of the directors was making such strange decisions and altering strategies and tactics that those of us working with him were so busy trying to fathom out his 'cunning plan' that, until the day he was escorted from the premises, we completely overlooked that he had simply gone mad!

So I have to spend £2500, lie through my teeth as to why my lovely Les Paul is the bees knees. And then I have a 1/10 chance to get my money back. hmm........no.

Realistically though, how many actual brand new Les Pauls are sold a day in the UK? 40-50?
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

There's a lot of things nobody would know about or care even less for if it wasn't for the minutiae that gets sifted through guitar internet fora everyday.

    Must be correct then.

These ones might actually be worth a lot in the future as they'll never make them again...!

I did actually say that recently.

If they only do one year of the LP handwritten sig, in the future they could well be a collectable.

Especially if they have only sold three as some people on here seem to think.

Generally with antiques and collectables it is the ugly and unusual stuff that doesn't sell well at the time that is worth by far the most.

Nearer 4-5, I'd estimate. If that.

What an odd odd promo. Maybe if I was 12, but at as a grown up, erm no.

    "What are you doing love?"
"Just writing an essay to a guitar company to tell them how much I love their product"

Just to put into context how ridiculous it actually is.

@Neil I wasn't saying it was correct, just an interesting theory. Let's imagine Coke radically changed the recipe & discontinued normal Coke? Would that seem like a business strategy?

I could possibly see them becoming collectable as a curiosity, but desirable to most players? Highly unlikely. Some things are just wrong and no amount of rarity will change that - and they won't be that rare, because despite the apparently lower numbers sold, Gibson have still made plenty.

I certainly expect that if the wider neck and possibly even the robot tuners (assuming they don't all fail in a few years) become sought after, it won't be considered a downgrade to refinish the headstock.

Coke is different though because it's a disposable item. Gibson have made plenty of "standard" models and there are plenty available, so the 2015 is more like a new brand along side older versions. i.e cherry coke vs coke.

I am sure though, that if sales have been that bad then they will pull the plug on some of the innovations quickly.

Out of interest I wonder how many nay sayers have actually tried a 2015 model? I tried a couple in andertons on my last UK visit, found the tuning to be very good (though I don't need it) and for me the new neck was very playable.. not a lot not to like.

I think the collective guitar community has properly got it's knickers in twist over this one.
