It doesn't excuse the ones that have, but there is a lot of negativity and scare mongering going on.

Yeah, I'd be hesitant to believe some of them-the restaurant one in particular smells like bullshit but I'm sure that the referendum has given some fuckwits the confidence/ammunition to say some shitty things. I'd also agree that the Brexit bullshit has increased the reporting of them too.

If you think its nasty now wait until these morons discover that not only were they not voting to have people deported but that they were also not voting to stop more immigrants arriving. 

My immigrant friends who live in 75% Remain Edinburgh tell me that even they feel a bit unwelcome in the UK at the moment, the thought of being an immigrant in somewhere with a high % Leave vote just now must be pretty scary I should think.

You think the idiots leaving cards saying “Leave the EU/No more Polish vermin” outside schools were not Leave voters? You think they won't be even angrier when they realise the Poles haven't left? 

You're also in dreamland if you think immigrants to the UK haven't been feeling unwelcome in the last few days. The Leave vote doesn't even have to have been racist for that to be the case.

Well I dont remember the last time I saw a racist incident but today in the motorway services saw some girl ranting at some indian guys about how "we had voted you out!" etc. Thankfully her boyfriend had the sense to drag her out.

No, there has been racism for as long as there has been people. Certainly a long time before the EU. The UK is one of the most tolerant countries I have ever lived in, and unless I see stat's showing otherwise, I will treat your anecdotes as scare-mongering.

Some of them probably voted leave, depending on their outlook. I suspect the "traditional" socialists though, the ones who want to over through the state(s) were no doubt voting "remain" though. But I could be wrong. I just suspect there are nut-case elements on *both* sides.

Well, this I can confirm as it is an old student of mine. She's a small, white, English girl, in Bristol.

"So last night on my bus home there was a 74 year old white man saying how proud he was that the uk voted out, that he was born in 1942 during a war, he was hardas fuck, he would help rid our beautiful country of the dirty foreigners and use a baseball bat on their children, it's time for the third reich to rise again and then did a nazi solute. I turned round to look at him and say something and he said 'what are you looking at little girl, don't agree? say anything to me and i'll get off this bus and follow you home'. I was genuinely scared and had no phone so said nothing. No one else said a thing."

Whichever way you voted, you can't deny that plenty have voted based on immigration (otherwise they would have not campaigned so hard on it), and small portion of those are just not nice people to say the least. When this small proportion see 52% voted out too, they are going to feel legitimised in their behaviour.

I've seen two more friends of friends post about similar experiences on Facebook today, including one man telling his children to say racist things to anyone who wasn't white :-(
