Take the option on the junior and return it if you don't like it?

I would have, but I've got a significant birthday coming up in a couple of weeks and think Lady Terada might have picked up a rather nice J45 I've had my eye on :D .

Don't want to count my chickens of course, but if she has, it'd be a bit of a kicker for her, plus we'd be even more short of cash.

But then the dulcet tones of a £285 Lester beckon...

I saw that - and it was really weird as I just thought that it wasn't much of a deal after last week. Which is crazy as any other time it would be crazy cheap and last ten minutes if a second-hand one appeared in the classifieds here at that price.

Man, I'm glad I've not got any Gibsons to try and sell 2nd hand at the minute

I'm pretty happy with a Standard at £860 'new'

Now just to see why it was sent back to Amazon - it said their was cosmetic problems to the lid of the item so I'm assuming there's a scratch on the case which I can live with! I think the BF prices were £1,000?

I'm fairly confident a new Standard for £860 will not be achievable anytime soon!

Me too, it is a ridiculously cheap price. Just anything over £265 for a new Gibson seems overpriced these days ;)

You don't want one of those… I had a "happy accident" last year. I'm now changing nappies and not getting any sleep.  ;)
It also means I have NO spare cash to drop on one of these bargains!

    and then....

    1. Unscrew the machine head cap.
    2. Looking at the top of the headstock with the bass strings toward the left, the machine head’s right recess should be between 4:00 and 5:00 o’clock, and the left recess between 10:00 and 11:00 o’clock.  (opposite for treble side)
    3. Thread the string through the bridge and toward the machine head. Pull on the string to take up any slack as you wrap it partially around the part of the post below the flange that faces away from the guitar body. Then, bring the string up through the flange recess that faces the tuning pegs.
    4. Wind one turn clockwise around the part of the post directly above the flange. (opposite for treble side, 2 turns for B and e)
    5. Screw the cap on as tight as you can with your fingers, then use a penny to give an additional 1/8th turn. Do not overtighten!
    6. Use String Up mode (see page 11) to tune the string.

I'm guessing in the next month eBay will be awash with gforce tuners, tempted to pick up a set if the market saturation keeps the price low.

it also talks about removing it and putting normal tuners on - but I do like to look at retrofit guides for any guitar technology when I get the chance.

I reckon that's just to cover themselves, the vast majority of recently made Gibsons should work just fine with it.

They seem to be going for £60-80 at the moment, depending on whether you've got the charger etc, which isn't bad considering you could get a nice set of Gotoh or Tonepros Klusons for less.

Mine are staying put at present. I've emailed Gibson to see about getting a titanium replacement nut.
At the end of the day, if I decide I don't like it I can always change fairly cheaply, but I have plenty of guitars that tune the normal way, and only one that does it automatically, and it's kind of cool. I wouldn't change all my guitars to it, but I'm actually liking it so far and It's been working well for me (although the battery needs charged sooner than Gibson claim for best performance).
