Thought the Lockheed F104 Starfighter was THE Widowmaker
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

It was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_F-104_Starfighter#Flying_the_F-104 but may not have been the only one ...

This might change our holiday plans....Sywell wss looking good as it's the closest to us, but right in the middle of the school holidays (which we haven't planned yet).

So maybe a seaside show down at Bournemouth or Dawlish...hmmm

I always thought the F104 looked like a spaceship, or to be less kind to it a shit version of the awesome English Electric Lightning.

Under German control, yes it acquired that nickname. There have been others prior to the F-104.

    Thread bump.

The Canadian Lancaster is in the air and heading this way! (well via Greenland and Iceland).

    :)

    ***edit***

    Or maybe not

Slight delay in departure. Because of full fuel on board, we elected to tow the Lancaster onto the runway for start up to save the brakes. However flooded number 2 engine on start up. Hopefully airborne within the hour.
    :(

    Reminds me of that joke.

Brit in a German pub talking to a local. "My dad spent a lot of time over Germany....in a Lancaster".

HMM, the Wyton flypast is all-but on my doorstep, and I'm most likely going to the Gransden airshow with my dad.

Looks good for a once-in -a-lifetime chance of seeing 2 Lancasters flying together.

    She's landed safely. Herculean effort.

Can't wait to see her fly with Thumper.

Fantastic (despite the weather meaning Thumper didn't join her in the air as planned).

Can't wait to see them togther! (at Dawlish on the 23rd).

@impmann IIRC Sywell has sold out already (the 2 Lanc effect). I was aiming for that one but we'll be away on holiday (lucky not too far from Dawlish).

I'm going to lurk in the surrounding area - I know I won't get in now. Also the opportunity to see the Canberra flying again means I will find somewhere to get a look!

Excellent. The midair squadron are putting on some great displays with the Canberra/Hunter duo (plus a second Hunter soon I believe).
