You don't know what brand of t-shirts we're using yet.  So you don't know the sizings.

Not at all - people place an order by putting the money in PayPal and stating their size at the time (or in a thread specifically for it). Once we've got at least 25, we extrapolate to 50 and order the shirts. Then we just keep a running total of the number of shirts of each size left in the first post of the thread, and people can buy them when they want.

Simples.

Apologies. 

I'd assumed that we'd have to order 51 units of the same size to get the 51+ discounted price.  But from the sites that I've looked at, we can mix and match sizes and still get the discount.

So your suggestion should work nicely.

No need for people to go on a monster pie-eating exercise and @clare_bear can have one in her size too.

Not entirely sure where we are on this one any more. I was just kicking out some ideas. I realise that quite a few folks are not really that happy with them and that's fine. The "pick smileys" seems a very popular idea but wouldn't work so well without the colours IMO. Everything I've done has been based on something that would work in a single colour, which is obviously less dramatic. 

Remember that a logo needn't be a staggering work of art. I did one for the Acoustic Guitar Forum a few years back and of all the fancy designs I submitted, the owner went with the starkest and simplest of the lot. No soundhole rosettes, no tuners, no goats nothing but a bit of nicely arranged Helvetica in the forum colours (sorry, colors).

A couple more ideas then I'm turning in for the night. If plectrums are popular, we could use that basic shape, rather than a roundel: 

My own preference would be for something featuring a goat of some kind:
