Despite my earlier suggestion of in a muffin I've just had classic BLT although in white hovis as no brown.  for some reason bacon was all I could think about...

Bacon is bad for you but it's alot worse for the donor. Here's the usual pre tenderised bacon, done using wooden bats, electric prods or a simple hammer to the head.

I assume you didn't post a picture from the UK because it didn't show the mistreatment you wanted?
@Sporky I though posting that pic would be less disturbing than this commonplace setup

No country has better or worse conditions, they are all appalling. I can understand if course why you'd prefer to think that your bacon is better, human nature.
Where you say that that is commonplace, I assume you can back up that claim? Only the article certainly suggests it is not normal at all - as does that it was reported on.

As for no country having better or worse conditions, that's another claim you need to back up.

Unless the aim of your posts is just to troll the thread, of course...
Well, you might be surprised about conditions
    considered normal:

    http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/pork-production-truth-pig-farming-uk-factory-hughfearnley-whittingstall-sienna-miller-mick-jagger-a7813746.html

Most intensive farms (where the vast majority of meat comes from) has conditions that are sanctioned by regulatory bodies but which in practice are absolutely immoral:

Farrowing crates - imagine being locked in a metal cage that totally surrounds you on a concrete floor while being artificially impregnated over and over.
    Tail docking
    Castration without anesthesia
No access to daylight or outdoor air.
No mental or social stimulation resembling the ordinary instincts of a pig.

On top of this pigs are widely regarded as being smarter than dogs yet have virtually a fraction of the corresponding rights.

While proof of cruelty above and beyond these conditions are subjective (most farms are private land and hard to inspect), the "standard" as shown in my link should give anyone who "loves animals" pause for thought.

I've certainly burnt my fair share of banjos but never thought about trying to eat one.

    Just trolling then. Gotcha.

No need to tag me in posts in threads I'm already posting in, by the way.

for reasons beyond my ability to fathom, I have, in the past, attempted to engage vegans in debate when they've challenged meat eating. They all tend to follow the same pattern, 1st they attempt to use "logic" and "reason" with some spurious and unsourced evidence. When you counter this, they then use the emotion response (like the "loves animals" one quoted). You only know for sure when you've won when they threaten to eat you/a loved one or wish harm to you/a loved one.

I save time now by going straight for my joke strategy, how do you know if someone's a vegan? don't worry, they'll soon tell you.

caveat, I have no issues with vegetarians, my wife is one and has been all her adult life. I frequently have meat free days, but all the vegans I have ever come across all have this proseslysing thing going on, it's not enough for them to be vegan, the whole world should should them, at the point of a gun in needs be.

Man alive, this is true and its why I don't use the word if possible, I prefer "non-dairy vegetarian" ... I've done it for health reasons (I've had long running breathing issues, the switch has massively reduced the symptoms) so there's no moral judgement from this corner ...
Reading up on recipes though, fork me ... the cookbooks are militant!

The "Troll" accusation is an unfair way of not addressing my points.

I must admit that this thread did particularly irk me as it coincidentally happens to be National Pig Day in the US

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Pig_Day

Which is sad as it's celebrated by eating pork in places.

Too many of us turn a blind eye to the suffering we impart on animals we eat from large scale farming yet are outraged and use words like "barbaric" when other nations treat dogs and cats in the same fashion. So it's healthy to insert opposing viewpoints in a discussion about bacon, because frankly if you represent the status quo here and out in the world then speaking out for animals is no skin off my back.

I felt sorry for the piggies in the field I pass on my way to work. Poor things must be frozen before they get to the slaughterhouse.

And now you're just doing the veiled insults thing. How tiresome.

The "troll" accusation is an entirely fair way of pointing out that you're using a thread about sandwiches to post things you know are (a) exaggerated beyond reason and (b) going to annoy people. Or, to put it more simply, the "troll" accusation is because you're trolling.

If you actually want a discussion about animal welfare, start a thread about it. Otherwise you're just the bore at the party who always turns the conversation to their pet topic, and that's rude.

Bacon can be fried or grilled, BUT it needs to be a mix of very crispy and non-crispy bacon, served with tinned tomatoes.
preferably granary bread very thickly sliced, or sour dough
olive oil drizzled over bread if toasted
    :)

I've just explained my reasoning and how it's date related, hardly Evangelistic (two articles cited and no one person directly called out in particular or labeled, just the industry) There are many discussions about food I don't participate so no need to defend the one I do. We are not talking about a matter of minor opinion on Fender vs Gibson here, industrial farming is horrible by any sensible definition and directly funded by most everyone having a bacon sarnie unfortunately. If you have a problem with unpleasant and annoying opinions then just feel free to ignore them.

Does no-one else do the bacon in the oven?

I either bake or fry, never grill.      I start with a cold pan  or oven either way - i want to slowly render the fat out before crisping the bacon up, so fast frying or grilling does not work for me

I have streaky at least 90% of the time.   I have smoked probably 99% of the time.

Simple sliced white or a soft white roll for the bread...always buttered

I don't mind a bit of sauce, brown or red, but i prefer without

Ignore any bacon from the supermarket.   Go to a butchers and see what real bacon should be like.   2 rashers from my butchers is equivalent to 5 or 6 from a supermarket, and tastes  incredible.

^ this.  We’ve got a butcher who deals mostly in pork and their sausages and bacon are amazing. Hardly any water comes out when cooking and the taste is miles better than any supermarket product
