  • Anybody else largely skim reading this for any band they might have seen or been in?
From memory I can only add:
    No Excuses
The Bo Dudleys ( who are still going, I think, despite the lack of me )
The Sugar Rocking Daddies ( terrible name)
    The Damnbusters
and other projects that never got to gigging stage that may/ not have had names.

  • I'm enjoying the names on here, it's so hard to choose names for bands and I'm annoyed that I didn't think of some of these!

    Right then!

PSOV (Peculiar Sense of Vertigo) - Coventry band playing original Muse-type rock/pop, 1993ish...which became:

Russian Girlfriend - As above with several different members (mainly due to strife and soap-opera adultery). I loved playing with this band...which became:

Black Sheep Family - As above but more of a loose conglomeration of musicians in the same place at the same time. Continues to this day with the son of the founder member.

Straitjacket - typical "local boys made good" cover band, Green Day/Terrorvision/Nena etc etc.

Hedge Gods - Current band, and my first ever acoustic band; we call ourselves an "instrumental rhythmic acoustic power trio" and we are proving more popular than I expected... A trio with no singer is so free of drama!
I'm just a Maserati in a world of Kias.

Animal's Hellwing - Horrendous, useless band with insipid originals and half-assed covers that never got as far as gigging after 2 years of rehearsals and lineup changes. Drummer's nickname was Animal (predictably), singer's surname was Hellwing (legally changed). Fkn nightmare
That band plays in every rehearsal room up and down the country.  Go there, anywhere, tonight at 7pm and they'll be setting up, and by 8pm they'll be at it.  I've played with them too.

Frankie and the Haddocks. School covers band. The name seemed hilariously funny at the time.

Zeitgeist. Pretentious college band playing pseudo Krautrock, but with no (fairly essential) keyboards we were predictably shite.

The Happening. Covers band but not the normal stuff, we did 60s tv and film instrumental themes and, bizarrely, Tom Jones songs because the bassist who was also our singist loved TJ. We managed a handful of gigs but our moment of glory was a comedy & music night where we got booed off, as did the comedian who was on after us. It was Paul Merton. So we were as good as him. >:D<

I did get approached once to do a gig at Houston Astrodome. I share my name with an ex Thin Lizzy guitarist and someone got the wrong end of the stick and emailed me to dep for their regular guitarist who'd gone sick. I was tempted for about 5 minutes but then fessed up. Never did find out who the band was.

:) It's certainly an awesomer name for a band than any of the actual band names I listed!

Talking of which, the singer in Rolled Gold originally suggested The Logjammers. Our drummer Googled the word and unfortunately ended up face to face with a specialist porn site for those folk who take "talking dirty" a little too literally...So we ditched that idea.

  • Shrink Wrapped - Covers. Rehearsed loads but never played a gig. We weren't very good but had a load of fun.

InLight - Originals. Kinda mixed between Muse, Pink Floyd and U2. Did well, played loads but ultimately didn't take off how we'd have loved.

Band De Jour - Covers. Pubs and functions around South London & Kent. Left earlier this year to emigrate. They're still going and cracking live, so I've heard ;)
The Assumptions - UAE party band for all your rock & soul desires

Oh my, this has me scratching me bonce. As best as I recall (and thats suspect):

Quadraphonic Sound - First Skool band only manages 3 gigs.

Phobis Green -  Second school band, again about 3 gigs.

    ? Can't remember?

Spirit of the Blonde - First decent/proper band. Pub and covers 5 Piece with a Blonde Girl singer.

Gambouge - Covers band with bass player from Phobis Green.

Haiden Griegor Band - Originals band 80-82, now reserected by the other guitarist as a 3 piece covers band.

Trunkles - A folk/electric band, the folk songs and caller did the first half of the song then Bas drums Electric guitar rocked it up once the participants had the traditional folk dance nailed. I was the dep but actually lasted longer than any of the permanant guitarists with about 4 years iirc.

Snap Shot - Pub pop/rockcovers band

Stone cold Sober - Pub pop covers band

The Martells - These were a long established functions band that I was asked to join and had a great 18 months before my personal life interfered! They are still gigging with the original drummer!

The Gangster Gang - Pub rock covers at it's best through the late 80s

Rembrandt and the Duvets - Covers (geddit) duo.

Souled as Seen - 8 piece soul band with 5 part harmonies and brass. Lasted about 17 years and produced an awesome sound doing function work.

The Cheese makers - Yes, well a project that gets wheeled out to fill in when no band is available for a gig a drummist and I find a basser and do it.

I have omitted a number of one offs and might have the chronology bass ackwards but that is essentially 4 decades worth in a nutshell.
