@BigBearKris Interesting. Of the four I mentioned, I liked Arrival the best, for the philosophical stuff more than the SF aspects. I also think Amy Adams can do no wrong (well probably, if I went through her filmography I'm sure there'd be things I hate).
I also really liked The Martian, I don't care about scientific accuracy (or any lack thereof) and I don't dislike Matt Damon. I think it's a rattling good yarn, in quite an old-fashioned way.
Interstellar I loathed, it looked like it was going to be serious then it got all swamped in sub-Spielberg sentimental bollocks. And I wanted to smother Michael Caine's whiny tearful old twat of a character with a pillow. (In the interests of full disclosure, I find Matthew McConaughey unbearable in most things.)
For what it's worth I didn't much like Annihilation either, I think it's an ugly-looking film with underdeveloped ideas and pretentious in a bad way.
So, I dunno…. on balance I think I probably won't like Ad Astra. But I'll watch it eventually.
I've got no problem with Matthew Mahogany, I think he's had some superb roles (eg True Detective & Frailty) but I found something which is becoming more and more an issue with Chris Nolan's films is the narrative structures and the complete lack of restraint, and add to that the Spielberg sentimentality and it seemed like a film that didn't seem to know what it really wanted to do. IMO, I think Nolan's films are at their best when they have a bit more rigidity in narrative eg The Prestige.
In addition, I thought it was a bloated take on a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror segment, when Homer Simpson discovers 'The 3rd Dimenson'

I'd actually forgotten Interstellar was Chris Nolan. He definitely shouldn't be doing sentimental, he strikes me more as a somewhat cold, detached kind of character - as a director, anyway. I liked all his early films but I do find it increasingly a chore to watch his recent stuff, it's all a bit bloated.
I did like Frailty, no argument there. And you're right about Homer.
I think he should make a rom com with Jack Black. When he travels back in time and kills his dad before he meets him mum, and some alien come along and tells him what the Matrix is really about but is it an alien or Jack Black in prosthetics? Whilst Michael Caine is a crazy scientist who advises him against time travel. Is it really Michael Caine or Jack Black wearing prosthetics?
Apparently a troubled production which rather shows in a convoluted and meandering plot. Val Kilmer is in it but was recovering from cancer at the time and all his lines are overdubbed after and occasionally badly.
Michael Fassbender plays a detective who is hopeless at asking questions or even spotting the bleeding obvious.
Some nice scenery and an incredibly unlikely police station.
Possibly worth watching if you like aerial shots of Norwegian bridges.
I liked the first Kingsman film. This is very similar, big and spectacular and noisy but somehow completely uninvolving. I wasn't bored though.
2/10 and no thumbs up.
One involving Russian tramps.
I don't feel at home in this world anymore

Stick with it, worth watching I wouldn't watch any trailers. Just a few of the scenes make the movie. We really enjoyed it.
7/10 but that I think is fussy score. Recommended.
2/10
An awful end to the franchise.
I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd
On one hand a look at PTSD and its impact on veterans as they grow old, regrets, lost loves ... on the other hand a b-movie about killing an ape-man to prevent mass global extinction. I like the former, flashbacks tell the story quite well and you can almost imagine a "what if there was a guy who had to carry that around with him?" real life scenario, but the latter is laughable at times.
