    The White Tiger

Indian rags-to-riches drama. I was expecting a slightly humourous ‘how I made myself the man I am today’ tale with some light relief along the way, but this is a seriously dark story which rings true in a quite disturbing manner... perhaps I should have read the book first.

Highly recommended, but not at all an easy watch or the usual Hollywood path to redemption.

    9/10

    (Netflix)

I’ve got the book on my iPad but not got round to reading it yet

Just so people are aware. I have no idea what any of these words mean.

    The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

A cast that is chock full of talent (Judy Dench, Bill Nighy, Penelope Wilton, Maggie Smith, Celia Imrie and more), a feel good story and a happy ending. Certainly not my usual fair, but well worth watching on a Sunday evening.
A very good film if you want some feelgood factor but it’s a very sanitised vision of life in India.

Indeed. If you follow that with The White Tiger you might get rather a shock...

I’ve read the book. It was a few years ago so I don’t remember it that well. But I do remember finding it very enjoyable and it’s an easy read by Booker winner standards.

    The Dead Don't Die
    Netflix

' The movie just ends, as if Jarmusch ran out of money or a reason to go on. '
[ quote from the Rolling Stone review]

Sort of an American Shaun of the Dead on mogadon. References to many other films that might pass you by unless you are a film buff ( even references to Dixon of Dock Green and Frank Zappa's 200 Motels) and a star studded cast ( Bill Murray, Tilda Swinson, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop) are the reasons to watch as it's not fun, not scary and basically just a bit odd.
    The Dead Don't Die - 6/10

Just watched this too. If you like Jarmusch, it's worth a spin. I like him. Not every film, but One Night On Earth and Mystery Train are among my favourite movies.
I found this quite fun. The wooden-ness of the performances and dialogue is amusing but overall it's a bit of a jumble that feels like it was almost made up on the hoof as they went along.
Not sure I quite agree with Rolling Stone. I've definitely seen plenty other films with vaguer and more unresolved endings.
Can't say I've watched many (if any) Zombie films. I presume they have some kind of "so bad it's good" cachet.

We watched it too over the weekend. Really enjoyed it. Hopefully we'll see some of those characters again in the MCU.

I want a retro cold-war era Red Guardian movie with David Harbour.

The tomorrow war… bunch of arse and full of holes in the plot…
I was really looking forward to this but it's just a big fail. So much so about 40 mins left I skipped to the last 5 mins to watch the predictable ending and left it at that.
    Completely awful film.

    There's a sequel coming... alas.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

The Tomorrow War - just because it was being so heavily promoted by Amazon. It's basically a very expensive B-movie. The aliens were done well but don't expect too much else. I think I'd have loved it when I was 12.

We were entertained by The Tomorrow War, despite it being shite. It had plot holes you could drive an oil tanker through.

The post-credit scene would suggest that we'll see at least some continuation with the sister - Yelena.

Yes I think we're going to build up to some sort of clash with the anti-Avengers.

Yep - if you've also seen the Falcon and Winter Soldier series as well, they started setting things up in there.

Yes we watched the series and so we know who Julia Louis-Dreyfus is in the franchise.

Had you been watching all the Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan ones prior to these?

Nah, although I may go back to them once I've finished the Craig ones.

Fwiw, I think the Craig ones are the best ones.
