Best opening track of a debut album?

What's Hot

Been getting back into the New Yardbirds again and surely Good Times, Bad Times is the best opening track of a debut album ever? The opening stabs, the back to front riff, the opening line "In the days of my youth, I was told what it means to be a man....", amazing drumming etc etc. Captures the essence of the band perfectly.

Any other offers?

I like Cochise on the otherwise not terribly good Audioslave album. Don’t know why that sprang to mind today, but there were are. Merry Christmas.

Snap. When I saw the subject title my immediate thought was "Good Times. Bad Times".

Really going to be hard to beat Good Times, Bad Times, IMO. Arguably Bonham’s finest moment. Not bad, for an opening song off their first record!

Runnin' with the Devil by Van Halen shook off the cobwebs from what had become somewhat formulaic.
Speed King was Deep Purple Mk II's debut.

    I thank you.
The B side of Gangsters was The Selecter by The Selecter as The Specials hadn't got anything else recorded at that point. Neol from The Selecter was still putting the band together and was putting ads in newsagent windows. One newsagent saw the ad and said he could play a bit so that track features Barry the newsagent who's entire musical career was a trombone solo on the B side of a top ten single.

As you've opened it up ;)

Black Dog - Led Zeppelin IV

This track is immense, John Paul Jones' (yes, not Jimmy) riff is simply perfect. Loved it from first ever hearing decades ago, still fresh today !

Imagine something sharp and witty here ......
