Man On The Silver Mountain - Rainbow

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow is the debut album, not Rising .

Coincidentally I was listening to this exact album when I saw your post! There's a great documentary about Dio out at the moment - 'Dreamers Never Die'. Can't remember which channel, I was watching it round at a friend's house a couple of nights ago.

The good ‘uns have already been taken; Good Times Bad Times, with John Paul Jones’s sinuous bass line, Page’s guitar acrobatics, Bonham’s jaw dropping bass drum work and Plant’s stratospheric vocals showcasing the remarkable nature of the band in less than 3 minutes.

Foxy Lady, with Hendrix’s wide vibrato slowly building into controlled feedback before slamming into that riff.

And the greatest of all, Black Sabbath creating a whole new genre in the space of three notes.

But seeing no one’s mentioned this yet, I’ll put forward Bombtrack.  Despite being consistently excellent, Rage Against The Machine never quite managed to top the impact of their debut album.  And this was a hell of a way to start it.
