Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow is the debut album, not Rising
Coincidentally I was listening to this exact album when I saw your post! There's a great documentary about Dio out at the moment - 'Dreamers Never Die'. Can't remember which channel, I was watching it round at a friend's house a couple of nights ago.
"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski
"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein
Foxy Lady, with Hendrix’s wide vibrato slowly building into controlled feedback before slamming into that riff.
And the greatest of all, Black Sabbath creating a whole new genre in the space of three notes.
But seeing no one’s mentioned this yet, I’ll put forward Bombtrack. Despite being consistently excellent, Rage Against The Machine never quite managed to top the impact of their debut album. And this was a hell of a way to start it.
