It’s an unusual place for a car to go off, but having had one do precisely that I’m disturbed that the race director gave the nod to installing a Wall Of Certain Death as a temporary fix.

I suppose the drivers should be thankful they put it back to Armco, and didn’t replace it with a row of steel spikes.

Concrete walls are used all over the place, some designed to be immovable, others are meant to move a bit if hit.

I do think that this should serve as a reminder that anyone can crash anywhere.  The original Armco barrier is clearly not suitable for deflecting an F1 car at that sort of angle so that needs addressing, but circuit safety in general needs to be refined even further.

I heard those radio conversations on another youtube channel. What struck me was that everyone was concerned for Romain, with a few plainly very emotional having been near the incident, except for Stroll who was moaning about another driver vying for position on the slowdown. Knob....

Unsurprisingly Stroll's chat is absent from the video you posted.

Well if Gr can get in a Merc and go fastest then.. evidence the car you’re in outweighs driver skill or at the very least contributes moreso. 

Else why has Gr been bottom of the grid with Williams. 

No doubt Hamiltons a skilled driver, they all are.. but George Russel is pretty green compared to the top dogs no? For that much difference in FP1?!

It's practice. It's not even qualifying, let alone a race.

Of course the car is important. But if the drivers were closer in skill then Bottas would have had half the Merc wins over the last couple of years. And he hasn't. Even when he's been on pole.

Russell is hardly a random off the street, of course he's going to be a headache for Bottas this weekend, and of course he's going to be disappointed with anything less than 2nd place.
