Sweary Guenther has confirmed that the second Haas seat will go to Pietro Fittipaldi if Mazepin is unavailable.

Isn't Young Nikita meant to be doing his Russian military service?

  • I'm guessing not as Daddy & Vladdy are mates.

In other news, the F1 YouTube channel has had good followup on each test day. Great stuff from Jolyon and Sam Collins, who I hadn't seen anywhere before - he's great

They could have the drivers wear Velcro race suits. Then have a fluffy track that follows/runs above the track. The when the drivers are ejected they stick to the fluffy bit like a fly on the wall.
Once the race has finished they could have a pickup truck drive round and pick them all up.
Surely you mean ‘pick them down’?

Just thinking Haas will save a shitload of cash by not having Mazepin driving.

Amazingly Mazepin’s 2021 repair bill was dwarfed by that of Baby Schu, who was the most expensive driver on the whole grid in terms of crash damage.  He cost Haas an estimated 4.2 million Euro over the season, compared to Nikita’s modest 2.4 million.

And if you want to keep the car out of the barriers, Ocon’s yer man.  He only racked up €280,000 of accident damage during the season.

Yeah, they can lay off a few of their carbon fibre fabricators!

Interesting to see that Russell and Norris had a bit of inter-team overtaking practice to see how the new cars fared...

Some ideas to improve F1 for those who feel it lacks excitement

Mandatory ice section - 3-400 metres of the track surface made of ice
Ramps - each track to have a jump over a double decker bus (obviously not Monaco - they will have a jump through a burning hoop
The large rolling rock from raiders of the lost ark
    Flame throwers

A Le Mans style start would suffice, and I reckon the cars should have to park 200 metres from the finish and the drivers then have to get out and complete a Total Wipe Out type obstacle course to the finish.

Anyone spotted any NowTV special offers yet?

Last year I managed to get Sky Sports on NowTV at £19.99 per month for 6 months rather than the usual £33.99.

Ah, the good old flag of convenience.  Assuming that Daddy is still able to transfer the sponsorship funds.

So Mazepin will be permitted to race under "The FIA flag".  In the event of him winning a race, is there an FIA anthem which will be played?

It should, of course, be this:

Yeah,  I guessed this might happen - most of them simply won't get visas.

Well, the Russian Paralympic team has been banned so it’s time got the FIA to grow some balls and ban Mazepin and Kvyat

    So...

Horner says that Red Bull were the only team expressing support for Michael Masi
Verstappen says the FIA "threw Masi under a bus"
Marko says it's all Hamilton's fault

Jesus, can they even try to reach internal agreement on whose fault Masi's sacking is?  The teams, the FIA, arch-villain Hamilton?

And in the meantime Max has wasted no time ensuring that he gets a share of Red Bull's recent sponsorship bonanzas by signing up to the end of 2028 on a contract worth $40-50 million per year.

Hamilton is simply too expensive for Formula 1.  That’s why the drivers’ salaries should be included in the cost cap.” - Helmut Marko, January 2021
"With Verstappen, we’re already close to the (salary) limit. At some point, that’s the end” - Helmut Marko, January 2022
"To have Max signed with Red Bull Racing through to the end of 2028 (at $40-50 million per year) is a real statement of intent" - Christian Horner, March 2022

    I did laugh at that.

I wonder if Merc and maybe others were starting to speak to Max's people about the next few years prompting this.
