In recent years I have come to like Vettle as much as I used to actively dislike him.

First to put his head above the parapet. Good man.

Haas is presumably rethinking some colours at the moment?

They've already got upgrades on the way. DRS replaced with a smoke grenade launcher, larger sidepods with increased bullet proof armour, that kind of thing.

I hear Hamilton's asking whether he can get reactive armour fitted to his car, in anticipation of Max's next enthusiastic lunge up the inside.

The skulls on the front represent the number of people Pastor took out in P1 alone that weekend.

Really? I heard Hamster has fitted a device directly linked to the FIA race director that constantly emits a constant whine as a counter-measure.......

Haas are taking the russian colours off the car for the last testing day.

Autosport just announced it - and Steiner has been pulled out of the press conference!

Mazepin has had his press commitments cancelled as well.

No further comment will be made at this time regarding team partner agreements” according to the Haas press release.

Wonder how much the Uruk-hai sponsorship is worth?

Shit loads, I should imagine. Wonder if they can carry on if it gets pulled?

Gene Haas's income is from his machine tools business; the F1 team exists for promotion of that coupled with his personal interest in motorsport.

Effectively, the Russian sponsorship is there because he doesn't fancy putting his own money into the F1 team anymore.  However, if the connection now creates the risk of poisoning his profitable core business by association, he'll take the hit and cut Mazepin loose.  There'll be a selection of pay drivers out there to fill the seat if required, even if they don't bring as much sponsorship.

    Hmmm...

“On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA, and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances.”

That is not strictly "cancelled", more "shit it doesn't look like this is going to happen right now". This will very likely be because they feel the need to make a statement asap but don't want to be "cancelling" the contract formally because that will come with financial penalties - they need to wait for their force majeure clause to kick in which it probably will with more sanctions coming over the next few days. I kinda feel for them but at the same time the messaging sucks a bit

That feels depressingly like the approach taken for the 2020 Australian GP; everyone knew they shouldn't be holding a race weekend, but they wanted another authority to tell them they weren't actually allowed to do it so that they didn't lose any money.

Yep. Same as the Tokyo Olympics - "No you cancel it". It's all a big game of contractual chicken, and no-one really wins

The good news is if Uralkali are dropped by Haas then Mazepin probably goes with him and bring in Giovanazzi (safe but dull) or Piastri (yes please, but less likely)
