My band, Red For Dissent
Love Goldtops, my favourite finish on a Les Paul. Out of all my guitars, this is the only one I would never sell. I'd like to think when I'm gone either one of my sons or one of my grandchildren will keep it as it's so personal to me.
*However Gold Tops are cools as and you are a heathen!
e.g. My ‘96 R7 looks ace (again, imo) but the old LP Classics in gold look washed out - the finish is very different
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.
To me they're like some kind of relic from the 60/70s, and look like they would go nicely in somebody's brown and beige interior.
These were mine. The Goldtops are gone now. The humbucker one is an 86 limited edition, which is now owned by Slash and the P-90 is a 54, which I sold along with the 62 Strat, when I needed to raise some money for house repairs. I still have the 58 Tele, 53/58 conversion (with original top and neck angle, done sometime in the 60's at a guess), and the 59 Esquire (with Sivertone/Gibson mini-humbucker in the neck).
I do like Goldtops now, but when I was younger I wasn't keen (especially when they age and go green), and stupidly didn't buy a 1957 Goldtop for $2,000, as it was really reliced!
