Twas, I believe the autum/winter of 1970 when the 11 year old me first spied a gold top Les Paul Deluxe in the window of Teagues music shop in Ryde on the Isle of Wight .... I lived in Sandown, and my folks were shopping in Ryde. Teagues were the only music shop on the island at that time I believe, and mostly they sold pianos and home organs, but they used to have a couple of expensive guitars in always, usually a Gibson of some sort and a Fender Strat. That day the tiny 'guitar corner' of the window contained a Jedson Tele 'copy' and the Gibson LP Deluxe ... I absolutely fell in love with it. I've never owned a gold top mind ... I think the only one I'd want is a 1970 Deluxe ... just to satisfy the inner eleven year old :-)

My great aunt always gave me Kellers Butterscotch sweets ... and my addiction to them fuelled my desire for that gold top Deluxe back in 1970 most probably :-)

@octatonic i played a couple of 2022/23 R7s today (both VOS, not Murphy) and they had sensible 59-style necks. Not huge by any means and the guitars sounded every bit what you’d want from a Les Paul.
