Merzbow is the sort of stuff you listen to when you're a teenager and want your friends to think that Lou Reed's Metal machine Music is too soft.
Excellently put. Merzbow is my standard response to "I like all music except rap and opera".

I've oft said that everyone has terrible taste in music, including me.

I know someone who went into a music shop to buy a new pair of monitor speakers. They said, "Bring some music that you know and like so you can try them out." He played some Merzbow and convinced them that the speakers were actually broken.

I think Hucknall can sing - it’s just that his obnoxious, utterly full of himself personality comes through in every note.
I'd definitely say it's more about punchability than poor musicianship.
    Have you tried meditation? :)

Well if it's a simply red song I won't like it!

The video actually makes it worse. Even knowing that, I bet some people still give it a go...

I suffered to watch it through , I wonder if there was a Mary who inspired it? She must have been mortified

I'll be honest that song just sounds like 90% of 80s pop to me
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

I genuinely don't understand a lot of modern hip hop. No edge to it, recycled beats that are ripped off YouTube, and mumbled lyrics about inane stuff. Not all hip hop does this - some of it is clever, angry, or fun, but so much of what I hear glimpses of just isn't.

Ditto people who listen to club music when not in a club - you know, the car that comes by THUMP THUMP THUMP. Are you imagining you're in a club while you're sat in traffic?
I’m not into hip hop  but I understand what you’re saying  , when you look back at stuff like grandmaster flash ,  Run DMC , Sugarhill gang (who were derided at the time by other rappers I think) and that whole scene that grew out of house parties in tenement blocks and projects  & the crossover with grafitti art & break dancing  ,that was all really something  even if it wasn’t to your taste , compared to what’s about today

The thing with modern rap is that they probably view classic period conscious rap like Public Enemy and BDP as old man's music. Rapping about how much money and girls you have had always been a part of rap as it was originally created by kids with nothing so it was that one upmanship braggadocio, just look at movies like wild style and Style Wars, New York early 80s makes Tower Hamlets look like Disneyland.

There is still some good rap around, but the mainsteam long ago moved away towards being appalling.

There's probably a rich vein to be tapped of "music you like but doubt many other people here do". Could work so many ways...

Morcheeba. Like the Lighthouse Family's younger, very slightly hipper cousins. Insipid stuff.

Have any of you tried the following?

    Sutcliffe Jugend
    Whitehouse
    Silencer
    CCCC
    Merzbow
    Nihilist Commando
    Vomir

Merzbow, but only the early stuff before he sold out and went pop.

It's practically easy listening these days.

I gave that a quick listen as I liked the artwork. I wish I hadn't but live and let live and all that.

My take on it is that I try not to listen to 'other peoples music' much.
I hate it when we or the neighbours have trades in with their site radios blasting shite all day.

The bloke that fitted our kitchen was a retained firefighter who regularly got 'shouts'

I'd pop downstairs and turn his radio down then off. He got the message in the end.

Anyone can like anything they like and that's fine with me, if I don't like it then I won't listen/look at/do it.
it's probably the most palatable on that list.
    I enjoyed it. Thank you.

Jamiroquai. Can't get my head around anyone choosing to listen to it.

On the plus side, you only need to hear one Jamiroquai song, since all the others are the same song.

I suspected this but couldn't bring myself to do the research.
