Always surprised how much ppl hate Simply Red, growing up outside the UK I think the hate is very local for whatever reason. Hucknall can really fucking Sing! Stars is great, money too tight to mention too and a few others.

For artists, a lot of you seem to have forgotten that art is subjective - like beauty.  All art is valid if it's liked by at least someone.  I personally can't abide most of the autotuned copycat I, IV, V, iv format stuff that dominates the charts these days, but it sounds nice to many people.......   Fucking morons who've never heard proper music yes, but they like it, so it has its place and audience, so live and let live.

I'd definitely say it's more about punchability than poor musicianship.

No, we're all well aware that it's totally subjective.  But the thread has asked us about music that makes us think "who actually buys this?" , so we're answering the question, we're not claiming to be right (well, maybe some of us are...).

For example - this year's multiple Brit award winner Raye.  I know people like what she does, critics acclaim her, I'm sure she's very good, no doubt I'm completely in the wrong.... but can I listen to her?  30 seconds and I have to turn it off.  To me, it's unbearable.

And by the way, I never expect anyone to like what I like.  I'm happy to tell people what I'm listening to, but if someone ever says "put something of yours on" it makes me hugely uncomfortable.  I feel like I'm forcing them to listen to something they'll hate but might be too polite to say so.

Presumably if you dislike autotune you dislike it in all contexts?

A risky position on a forum full of guitarists and keyboard players. 

You're right though; the trombone, violin family, and a few others are the only instruments for real musicians who don't need autotune.

I genuinely don't understand a lot of modern hip hop. No edge to it, recycled beats that are ripped off YouTube, and mumbled lyrics about inane stuff. Not all hip hop does this - some of it is clever, angry, or fun, but so much of what I hear glimpses of just isn't.

Ditto people who listen to club music when not in a club - you know, the car that comes by THUMP THUMP THUMP. Are you imagining you're in a club while you're sat in traffic?

Oh, that could be in the "need to vent?" thread for me.... I can't stand people in cars, with the windows open, who think it's OK to inflict their musical taste on the outside world.

(Same principle as people playing music or TV on their phones, without headphones.  Just fuck off.)

I don’t take this thread as ‘Music what I don’t like’ so much as ‘I can’t see what anyone sees in it.’

Dance music does nothing for me, but I understand it has its place and I can sort of see what the people who like it get out of it.

That also applies to Robbie Williams except Williams doesn't really have a good voice. He started off as a dancer. He tried to do a swing album and failed miserably. In his head he thinks he's Frank Sinatra.
